What's Worse Than the Worst-Case Scenario for Climate Change? | Opinion
Newsweek ^ | December 27, 2022 | By GARY YOHE

Posted on 12/27/2022 9:51:49 AM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

This year obliterated climate records as we suffered through some of the worst disasters in modern history. These events have had an extraordinary impact on many lives and more such events will continue to do so.

Going forward, all we know is that adverse weather events will increase in both frequency and impact, and we cannot quantify either component of the risk calculation.

Exposure to what we do not know is potentially lethal. What we do know is that it will be worse than what we can predict based solely on existing data, and damage, both in terms of treasure and human life, will be unimaginable.

People are underestimating the consequences of climate change when making decisions in all aspects of their lives; if they don't take account of the worst extremes, they are not taking account of active climate change.

If the consequences are huge, we should take them into account while it's still inexpensive to do so. Being prepared does not mean protecting yourself from every possible event. It means as we look forward, we account for a time of greater and increasing extremes, and our short-term decisions on how we invest need to take into account what the future may look like. Ignoring bad possible outcomes will only exacerbate our own risk. We don't know how likely it is that a tipping point will occur or that we, as a species, will irreversibly alter the climate.

If we don't take account of the possibility of extremes, we are all neglecting our responsibility in the face of active climate change.

Let global warming end naturally in 2 to 4 centuries like it did all the other times in the past 7,000 years (always lasting 4 to 6 centuries, our Modern Warm Period is about 2 centuries old).

And while we're in the Modern Warm Period, we should enjoy higher crop yields and more predictable rain patterns and less deaths by plagues. People in prior warm periods didn't hate living in good climate eras like our political cult wants us to.

“we, as a species, will irreversibly alter the climate.”

words fail me. What a watermelon.

The good professor would do well to look past his leftist beliefs and spend some time studying solar forcing.

first, we confiscate all property along the ocean and start building an ocean retention wall. No one should be allowed to put themselves in such danger anymore.

second, all actors should be replaced by cgi characters to limit the amount of CO2 that is spewed by these carbonites reading lines over and over again when cgi characters always get the take right.

thirdly, and most importantly, no one should be allowed to live in areas that need heat or air conditioning to live.

Gary Yohe is an uneducated moron.

If climate change was real, then financial institutions would not be funding construction near oceans that will flood or be devastated by hurricanes.

If climate change was real, the number of lives lost to weather disasters would be rising, not declining.

If climate change was real, we would not have 15% more green areas on Earth (larger than North America) than at any time in recorded history.

If climate change was real, our deserts would not be shrinking as plant life takes back arrid ground.

If climate change was real, you would see the educated and wealthy shy away from oceanfront properties and would stop burning fossil fuels in record numbers.

Socialists gain power. Socialism has proven to be an environmental disaster wherever it is actually tried.

"we suffered through some of the worst disasters in modern history"

Will they care to spell out which disasters they're talking about? No. Just trust what they say and shut up.

Today it is about 5 degrees warmer here than it was yesterday. According to Global Warming calculation models, by this time next year it will be well over 1500 degrees!

We have also enjoyed a TRIPLING of average life spans due to technology, man’s ingenuity, invention of calculus, mastering of thermodynamics and metallurgy, all yielding plentiful and cheap energy. Lots of studies have shown national GDPs are directly related to energy usage.

The leftists would undo all of that and, in their utopia, the average life span of a male at birth would once again be 38 years.

Bingo! China is doing that right now. Also for those not killed, they will be enslaved, including those billionaires who think they will beat the system. The shock on those dumbasses faces when they are stripped of everything will be priceless.

Perhaps the “learned professor” should check meteorological history before spouting off. I would bet that all of this weather has happened before. It may not have affected as many people as it does now due to the increase in population and may have not made so much news since information wasn’t shared so readily as it is today.
