Third, they can disable him, make him ineffective, any time they want, should he begin to show signs of actual conservative leaning.
The Democratic Party at the state level in New York is breathtakingly stupid and incompetent. For many years it has all been about individuals protecting their own power. Andy Cuomo was the epitome of that, as he actually fought to help keep the state senate in Republican hands for a long time because an all-Democrat state legislature would make him less powerful. I don’t think this guy is a stealth Democrat—that is giving the party too much credit.
