The blizzard ended Christmas morning, but the emergency was far from over.
With first responders in Buffalo and the Northtowns finally able to start maneuvering, the devastation from the fierce winter storm that battered the region with gale force winds, lake-effect snow and bitter subfreezing temperatures was coming to light.
Sister says Buffalo man died in the blizzard on his 56th birthday On Day 3 of the storm, desperation was growing.
At least 17 people were dead, and authorities said there was no question that the death toll would increase.
Well, don't those blizzards come in from other states? Or Canada, a well-known haven for bad winter weather?
The airport is in Cheektowaga, right?
But what are the wetbacks gonna do?
Actually, I suspect that Abbott is a closet Democrat. Or a tentacle of the cartel.
“they used to tie a rope between the barn and the house”
They definitely did. Mom remembers Grandpa did that on the farm a little south of Buffalo.
Buffalo Looters.
There was a Buffalo Looter, In the heart of America, Stealin' from a Nike store, Brought from china to our shore.
I lived downtown for four of my eight years in Buffalo and I was stuck a few times but I recall that the mood was one of cooperation. People always had shovels, tow chains, salt and kitty litter in their cars. After we shoveled the driveway, walk and the street spots, we would walk to the pizza or taco place and push cars out along the way. I don’t think this new generation has the fortitude to do what needs to be done.
This was forecast.
Why didn’t Hochul call up the National Guard...
Note to folks: Waiting for the government to save you from yourself is a very bad idea, especially these days.
Wife and I Left soviet Red Hampshire for Tennessee years ago...left family behind. :-)
up ta Maine the houses were connected with the barn by a series of sheds.
Ryan Hall mentioned this during his live stream the other night...one side of a town would be twenty degrees warmer than the other as the front swept thru. One example I recall was 47 on the east side of Memphis, 25 on the west...that's a hell of a temperature drop over such a short distance...reminiscent of a chinook in reverse.
It was bizarre. We had a ton of rain leading up to the storm, we had a quarter of our yard flooded. After it hit I had to go out because our dogs fence blew over. The puddles were frozen solid in less than an hour.
Craziest thing I’ve even been through.
Not only that (that there are lots of good people suffering) - but among people who hate Republicans more than they hate Democrats, there are lots of good Americans waiting for leadership of a sort that the GOP is unwilling or unable to provide.
“Police scanner sounds really bad ..finding people frozen to death in cars buried in snow drifts:
Sounds like Nebraska. My paternal side is from there, my sister was up there for several years. Sis told me it was not uncommon to find a dead person in a snow buried car. The saddest story she read in the papers up there was that a whole family... The parents had taken their clothes off and covered the children with the clothes but everyone succumbed to hypothermia.
TBH the other day when Biden made the statement “if you’re going to leave you better leave now” before the storm started to really hit hard... that family and their sad demise was one of the first things that entered my mind.
What a blithering and total fool! Telling people to get out ahead of the storm putting them in a difficult or deadly situation...
death toll up to 25 Buffalo area
Total now 25 per Erie County’s
@markpoloncarz
: “13 individuals died as result of blizzard (car, outside, snow shoveling, or found in a home) reported yesterday, additional 12 being reported today, bringing total to 25 countywide.”
People do not understand that “global warming” is an empirical Good Thing (tm) for carbon-based life.
It’s those new Battle Vision Cyclone Bomb snowstorms. Real Killers!!! sarc/
Do what they do after hurricanes - blame the Republican governor.
There’s video on Twitter of “Arab” store owners shooting at looters in Buffalo.
I just finished binge watching The Last Kingdom
