Go to woods and collect wood. That is illegal in most of the EU. The woods are the property of the greens and nobody can steal from the fungi and white mold.
Badger, I lived in Germany for four years. Trying to use solar power is a joke, too cloudy as I recall.

This puzzled me, too. Candles can get pretty expensive, when you can buy such good battery LED lanterns for cheap now.
NPR. Almost completely ignored the desperate use of wood and wholesale use of low efficiency brown coal to make up for the energy shortfall. Didn’t bother to mention aluminum plants shut down, probably for good. German gas reserves are down to 86%, not “near 100%”. And winter has just begun.
Hoe can they be having an energy crisis.
US energy exports to the EU are through the roof...
One ship load at time will not be adequate to replace the pipelines from Russia. The port facilities could not handle the load necessary to stave off energy rationing in Europe.............

The earth is billions of years old and have undergone millions of changes. Nothing that man has done in the past 200 years comes near what has gone before.

Candles also produce heat and are pleasant for many, they can be used under sinks, for backups in case of running out of batteries and they don’t have a shelf life.
I have my blackout lighting needs met but also keep candles.
Some people may even be using this as an excuse to stock up or splurge on candles that they wanted to buy anyway.

And what another government maff program where candles are sold that take multiple times the energy to make as they produce.

You have to charge the LED lanterns somehow. Plus they don't do much good when you are freezing to death. At least you can huddle around a burning candle.
