he biggest pay raise for troops in two decades is headed to President Joe Biden's desk for his signature after the Senate approved the annual defense policy bill late Thursday.

his year's National Defense Authorization, or NDAA, endorses a basic pay raise for 2023 of 4.6%, far higher than 2022's 2.7%.
The bill, a piece of compromise legislation that had been debated for months, was approved with overwhelming support with 83 votes for and 11 opposed. That follows House passage last week, meaning all that's needed for the bill to become law is Biden's signature.

I was in the Air Force during the end of the Carter years, and I remember inflation being north of 8%, but Carter limiting our pay raises to 5.5% to "hold the line on inflation."
Don’t blame it all on Biden. The GOP will be in charge of the purse strings next year and we will see if there is still funding in the IRS budget for the 87,000 new agents.
coming from the guy that has to be reminded to salute when embarking/disembarking Air Force One and Marine One. The 4.6% increase along with food stamps will still come up short when it’s time to pay the bills.
The good news is that because of the Covid mandates, there aren’t as many to give a raise to . . .
To be fair, the CIC is a civilian and civilians are NOT required to return a salute from someone in the military. It was a tradition started by Reagan and continued by the following presidents. I would be insulted by a draft dodger returning a salute.

Yes..the average junior enlisted living in the barracks and eating in the chow hall will only see a 4.6% increase. But the cost of heating their rooms, electricity, meals and meal preparation has also risen. Except for junior enlisted who do not know how to managed their funds, they will see a 4.6% increase in disposable income.
Current rate of inflation is 13.2 %

I just read where inflation is now over 13%. Stick it to the service members and give billions to Ukraine for $40,000+ Paris shopping trips. Ah, it's the Democrat way.
