All about changing congressional districts with different people moving there because of train access to the city

This is why they want to build a seconds set of tunnels far beneath the current Penn Station for New Jersey Transit.

This would make the Railrunner look like the infrastructure deal of the century.

High speed? No. But the idea is for standard speed service between Scranton and New York to serve this growing market.
They ripped up the tracks long ago and last I heard the NIMBYs in North Jersey were fighting bringing back the trains. Have they started the project?

The federal government was promising 160-mph speeds on the Northeast Corridor way back in the late 1960s. Broken promises started with the Budd Metroliner; the
March 1969 edition of the Penn Central Post about the Metroliner’s debut illustrated the broken promise thereof by claiming that “initially, the speed is being kept to 110 (mph).”

Yes. Pieces of it are in place. The Roseville Tunnel is a big deal, but NJT plans on starting work on it next year.

It would be cheaper and faster to put an old-fashioned steam train on that route, except instead of coal it would burn bundles of $100 bills...

I remember my father taking us to Hoboken on the Lackawanna and then the ferry to Manhattan. That was decades ago.

Dual modes from Siemans? Might be useful for Keystone Service to Pittsburgh. That’s one or two a day.

At least you have less time to be afraid if the no-bail thug pushes you in front of a high speed train.
