WATCH – Biden Says ‘We Can’ Build a High-Speed Rail from Scranton to New York

President Joe Biden pledged to build a high-speed railway between Scranton, Pennsylvania, and New York City on Wednesday.

The president made his bold (and likely unrealistic) pronouncement during his post-midterm election press conference on Wednesday when recalling how a congressman in the state of Pennsylvania asked if his infrastructure plan would include a high-speed rail between the two cities.

“We can. First of all, it will make it a lot easier to take a lot of vehicles off the road, and we have more money in the pot now already out there that we voted for than the entire money that we spend on Amtrak, to begin with,” he said.

What, 16, maybe 20 people drive from Scranton to NYC every day.

Typical.

Suuure. And the abandoned rail cars will make some fine low-rent housing.

Instead of this dandy train fantasy, how about something to make the US energy independent, fiscally responsible, lower inflation lower crime rate and close the border?

LOL. Yeah, I had no idea that Scranton had such a large NYC commuter population. But, silly me, I forgot all about Wilkes-Barre.

.
I know Biden.

He’s been a corrupt egomaniac for over 40 yrs.

He’s running, he ordered the Raids of Trump, and he’s using info to twist the arms (blackmail) peeps in the Senate to protect his Foreign Cash Operations.

Does he look worried? He’s not.

Republicans lining up to increase funding to FBi and DoJ and some have said they’ll vote for more money for Jan 6th commission.

(Rail fan here)

The funny thing is the railroad sort of proves major points about Dems’ beloved devotion to “renewable energy”.

Freight trains - heavy lifters - are DIESEL.

Passenger trains, when they have the infrastructure, are electric.

So, maybe commuters can use electric, but serious driving needs serious fuel.

Take a lesson from your trains, Brandon.

JFK: We will go to the moon before the end of the decade!

Biden: We can go from Scranton to New York in just a few billions of dollars!

Is this so another 200,000 people can leave NYC as quickly as possible?

When was the last time you were on I-80 in Monroe County?

The highway was bad enough. Enough government projects, I say.

Where is Willie Green when we need him?

Actually, the highways are pretty crowded at the awful I-84/I-81 interchange in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The problem is that most of those people are going through Scranton to points west and south. It is a miserable drive (windy steep hills, rainy, tractor trailers all over), but a train doesn’t fix it.

Real estate prices have gone so crazy in the New York metropolitan area, to include most of North Kersey, that people have been commuting between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre to New York via I-80. This is because real estate in Pennsylvania's anthracite region is much cheaper than North Jersey.

New Jersey Transit is slowly working on rebuilding the old Delaware & Lackawanna route -- the old Phoebie Snow route. The necessary ingredients to make this happen include PennDOT participation and a whole lot of federal bucks.

High speed? No. But the idea is for standard speed service between Scranton and New York to serve this growing market.

Most commuter trains in the USA are diesel. Before that, they were steam. In some cases, certain lines were de-electrified and converted to diesel.

Never mind what happened to electrified rail freight. Government policies all to blame.

Bow much more has California spent on its high speed train from LA to SF compared to the budget of NASA from 1960-1970?

Since the departure and arrival stations could be the same
one, that should undercut Japan’s and China’s quick trip
times.

Smile. That Biden, he’s so clever.
