San Diego ER seeing up to 37 marijuana cases a day — mostly psychosis

“One clinical study showed that a moderate dose of pure THC causes psychotic symptoms in about 40% of people who lack a family history of psychosis. If you’re a casual user and your dosage is mild, that likely just means a touch of paranoia,” said neuroscientist Christine Miller, an expert on psychotic disorders.

Thirty-five percent of people who have experienced such symptoms, however, will go on to experience a full psychotic break, according to another study, if they continue their high risk environmental exposure by continuing to use cannabis.

According to multiple studies, for those who have ever suffered a full cannabis-induced psychotic break, the chance that, if you still keep using, you’ll eventually develop permanent schizophrenia is almost 50 percent. That’s a higher conversion rate than amphetamines, opioids or LSD.

But what really makes THC more dangerous than those other drugs, experts say, is that so few people consider it dangerous at all. “We know fentanyl is bad. We know meth is bad,” said Dr. Libby Stuyt, a recently retired addiction psychiatrist in Colorado. “We don’t know that marijuana is bad.”

Does anybody actually believe that? And if it is true, it’s obviously laced with something pretty bad.

There’s a big difference between legality and promotion.

The world isn’t binary.

I smoked weed occasionally and “socially” as a college student, until on day at a concert, a friend of a friend brought some weed which burned our lungs, gave me a splitting headache, made me vomit. Have no idea what it was or what was in it.

It was an epiphany. WTF was I putting my health and life in the hands of unknown drug dealers for something which made me sick and stupid??

Never touched it again, and I will preach to anyone I know, especially young men, not to touch that shyte. Some think I’m a freak, but most understand its not good.

I liked it back in the day, age 18-30. After 30 it just didn’t appeal anymore and I never missed it.

That was pretty much the way it was for me, too. Instead of laughing a lot and being fascinated by all sorts of ordinary things, I'd be all anxious and paranoid. Pot wasn't fun anymore, so I stopped around 1985. Tried it once more about 10 years later, same effect.

Marijuana is effectively legal in this state now, and I don't have to get drug tests since I retired, but I have no urge to smoke again.

Thing is these people are California democrats and by default already disturbed. A little marijuana nudge pushes them over the edge.

Worse than previous, or worse than alcohol?
Asking legitimately.

I am sorry... yes, I believe that marijuana is now a much worse problem in Washington State than alcohol. This is largely because of the amount consumed, its potency and the large number of people who are obviously addicted. I have witnessed this through my experiences working, acquaintances, friends, neighbors and loved ones. Many people have told me that they are willing to give up anything but marijuana.

A guy who was my driver moved to Florida with his wife eight years ago. They could no longer get marijuana. When we visited; they begged us to send them marijuana through the mail. It turned out that they had been growing and selling marijuana up here and they were told to get out of the state or lose everything. This is someone who has a good retirement.

Since that time, he has gone into severe cognitive decline and his wife is having severe mental issues as well which my wife and I believe are related to their long-term pot usage. They are now able to get “medical marijuana” in Florida, so they are both back in that lifestyle.

LOL, I neither drink nor do drugs.

This issue is not binary.
Do you have a problem with cancer patients being prescribed weed?
The number one revenue stream for La Mecha was MJ for years.
Is crushing them bad?

“Reason is not something this forum is known for”

Especially when it comes to marijuana hysteria.

My favorite is the weed is so much stronger than in the 1960’s.(No way to prove this BTW)

So we were locking people up doing the “weak ass stuff,” but now we don’t when the stuff is so much stronger & “dangerous?”

Articles like this are market makers for people that want to make $ off “doing something” about the perceived weed crisis.
