CEO Declares San Francisco Has 'Descended into a City of Chaos' as He Pulls Company from City

Outdoor active-wear brand Cotopaxi is closing its San Francisco store after only a year following rampant theft that left the store’s staff “terrified.”

The company’s founder, Davis Smith, announced the closing in a LinkedIn post Tuesday.

“It’s sad, but San Francisco appears to have descended into a city of chaos,” he wrote. “Many streets and parks are overrun with drugs, criminals, and homelessness, and local leadership and law enforcement enable it through inaction.

“One of the most beautiful and amazing cities in the world is now a place where many no longer feel safe visiting or living.”

“We opened a retail store a year ago on Hayes Street, the charming shopping district just blocks away from the famous Full House home,” he wrote. “Our first week there, our windows were smashed and thousands of dollars of product was stolen. We replaced the window, and it immediately happened again (four times). We replaced with window with plywood as we waited for a month+ to get a metal security gate installed (demand for those gates is creating huge delays).

”As a result, he said, the company was left with no choice but to shutter the location, one of 10 that had been operated by Cotopaxi. The company website lists the location as “temporarily closed,” but Smith didn’t sound optimistic about the chances that it would re-open any time soon.

As of today, we are closing the store due to rampant organized theft and lack of safety for our team. Our store is hit by organized theft rings several times per week. They brazenly enter the store and grab thousands of dollars of product and walk out. We started keeping the door locked and opening it only for customers, but even then, they’ll have a woman go to the door,

We’re into a lawless society as laws are useless if not enforced and prosecuted.

“Chaos”? Is this guy a priest? Everyone I know refers to it as a “drug-infested $h1t-hole.”

Gavin and his aunt Nancy must be proud since they condone this environment.

Liberals are hoisted by their own petard. For decades homeless people, drug addicts and, more recently, angry black youth have been weaponized against conservatives. Having beatified these groups, the libs cannot now condemn them without losing their weapons against future conservatives.

I've changed planes in San Francisco several times.
I've never been out of the airport.
SF is (was?) such a beautiful city that I always
wanted to spend some time there to see the place
as a tourist on vacation.

But I was always too busy working.

Now it looks like I never will.
The place is now too far gone for my 'bucket list'.
It's a shame.

NYC is so dangerous right now that people in my area stopped taking the almost 2 hour bus ride there for the day to see a show, museum, etc.

How come pecker puss Pelosi never gets blamed for the state of her district? She epitomizes the limousine liberal who lives as a feudal queen behind high walls and moat. Despicable.

It’s being operated by angry deviants, what did you expect? Vote better, get better…

Yep. I first visited in the mid 90s. I saw more drug addled bums and panhandlers there than I had seen anywhere else way back then. I was told petty theft and car break ins were a big problem even back then. Prices were absolutely absurd even back then as well.

San Fransicko has been a festering pustule for a long time.

No sympathy for him, or his company - who do you think he has been voting for the last 20+ years? Once he figures that out, he can look in the mirror to see who to blame....

The Left doesn't care if companies move from their cities because they hate business (it's for greedy people). This means plummeting housing values? Good...now poor people can live in them.

And all the homelessness and drug use is tolerated because, well, that's what tolerance means.

Crime (theft and assault) is applauded because they see it as reparations and retribution, respectively.

Their cities are cesspools, but only to people on the Right. To people on the Left, cesspool cities are the result of and reaction to a society and country built on systemic racism, intolerance, greed, and, last but not least, Biblical values.

From the Left's POV, everything will settle down after the revolution is over and communist institutions and laws are firmly in place.

So if you have been pearl-clutching over the crumbling of blue cities, you can stop.

This is all part of the plan.

>>We visited San Francisco in late 1980s when our kids were young. We didn’t find it beautiful and we saw quite a few homeless men way back then.

I worked there a part of a year in the early ‘70s. There were lots of parts of San Francisco that I wouldn’t have visited back then.

I’m quite happy to have moved from the city to rural America, and to have left so much of this behind. There are problems here as well, but not like in the cities.

Car rental companies will soon have to treat areas of the US like they now treat Mexico (although didn’t in the past) - simply prohibiting travel there.
