The COVID-driven rush of New Yorkers into Florida has turned into a stampede — with no end in sight.
A record-breaking number of Empire State residents switched their driver’s licenses to the Sunshine State version last month, according to a Post analysis of Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles data.
A total of 5,838 New Yorkers made the switch in August — the highest recorded number for a single month in history, the numbers show.
Year to date, 41,885 New Yorkers have handed over their licenses after moving south, a torrid pace that’s pointing to a new annual record.
Some observers had speculated that the outbound flow would ease with COVID receding and cities opening back up.
But the latest figures suggest otherwise.
Renowned fashion designer Alvin Valley moved his primary residence to Palm Beach during the pandemic and said the ongoing influx has been staggering.
“First it was the billionaires,” he said. “Then it was the rich following behind them. Now you have the middle class.”
Valley, who has already opened one Palm Beach boutique and has another in the works, said the Florida flight has been driven largely by quality of life concerns.
“A lot of families just began to feel like New York was becoming unlivable,” Valley said. “Especially for younger couples with kids in their thirties and forties. They don’t want to get on the subway. It’s a safety issue, it’s a schools issue.”
A retired NYPD Lieutenant who moved with his family to Jacksonville last year told the Post that New Yorkers still have a buffet of reasons to bid farewell.
John Macari blamed COVID-19 mandates, rising crime and unappealing schools for the continued departures.

Hey democrat NYers, good luck with rising taxes, crime and a much deserved lower standard of living.
I think you’re right, Trump barely won Florida in 2016 but dominated Biden in 2020, I think he won by about 400,000 votes which is a landslide in Florida.
In the upcoming midterms, if DeSantis crushes Charlie Crist by something like 6-8% and Rubio who in a tougher race wins as well, it will show the majority of the people moving to Florida are reasonably conservative and are fleeing the Liberals Hells they came from.
I think for the first time in history, registered Republicans outnumber registered Democrats in Florida.
If this holds up, Red States will get more Red and the Blue States will become even bigger hell holes because those staying are hardcore liberals.
They need to keep those liberal tendencies in check, then. Inevitably, some are going to squawk about Florida’s policies and rail on about “how things were done back home.”

Its the I 95 route from NYC, some get lost and take I-4 to the Villages. The frosty NY’ers take 81 to 75.and join up with the Mid Westerners. Then we have the sneaky NY’ers who are sliding over from the east coast to Naples, where they join up with the new arrivals from CA. The crap will start here too, China just purchased 1200 acres of land. Locally in our quiet area, the Glitz is coming, the investors are bringing in the high risers and big $$$$ housing. Still no low income housing for people who want to work. I don’t see a red FLA, I see purple.
I moved to Florida in January. My income went up $200 a week just from no longer paying the ny state income taxes
BTW. NY’ers always used FLA addresses to get lower auto insurance rates.
