Tesla sends government message to owners about conserving electricity and not charging their Teslas

Has your gas-guzzling SUV ever sent you a message telling you a specific time when you are not allowed to fill your vehicle with gas? Because Tesla owners are getting messages informing them of when NOT to charge their electric vehicles during California's "flex alert," which is where Californians are told when they can and cannot use electricity.

Last week, Californians were "advised" by the non-profit American Public Power Association to set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, turn off unnecessary lights and avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles. It was ironic because, only days earlier, unelected government bureaucrats in California announced a ban on gas-powered cars by 2035.

I suspect that like the remotely controlled thermostat story of last week, that the government will force EV companies to install software in them that shuts off the charging circuits, no matter what the source of power be it from the grid or a portable generator.

“the government will force EV companies to install software in them that shuts off the charging circuits”

Not much of a leap to believe the government can then remotely control your EV for a myriad of other reasons.

Late on your taxes? no EV power for you

Spreading misinformation on social media? no EV power for you

Didn’t vote the right way? no EV power for you

Didn’t use the correct pronouns? no EV power for you

Think its crazy?....I sure don’t

Anyone who has paid any attention to these kinds of things, even dimly, has to understand the risks.

Look at what the ChiComs have done to people who tried to go to the large cities to protest what has happened to their real estate “investments”.

All of their COVID QR codes, which are necessary to go anywhere (Internal Passport) changed from Green to Red, which means you cannot leave your domocile.

Going to an Electronic Currency, mandatory carrying a trackable smartphone type of device (for your money, ID, etc of course) having your house utility meters remotely controlled, having an Electronic Vehicle, all of it tied together with “cool” 5G technology is going to have the massive collective effect of removing all vestiges of personal freedom.

“Oh, our government would never leverage those things to inhibit our personal freedom.”

Uh huh. They have pretty much demonstrated that they CANNOT be trusted with ANYTHING.

I’m sure that Tesla can do it now. Most likely they’re just testing the waters to see what the pushback will be.

And yep, Tesla and all other companies will be shutting down charging of EVs on government orders - as it has to be that way, since no one in government is serious about storing energy for bad wind/solar conditions.

They already can, since 2009:

"...since no one in government is serious about storing energy for bad wind/solar conditions."

It's a horrible idea to do power storage at the utility level. It works only on the individual family level and even then it's not perfect (I've had to buy 11.4% of the power I needed from the grid since I made additions to my solar and batteries).

Don't play into the Dims' conversation on "green" energy and pretend like there are workable solutions at the utility level (except hydro power, that has been pretty consistent in Alabama).

When you go out in your gas or diesel powered vehicle, you know it will get you there and back when the grid is not operating. Cali earfqwakes kill the grid? You are fuqued. In the Midwest it’s tornados that kill the gwid. Again... you fuqued. In the way south, it’s huwicanes. Again....fuqued. way down south, NOT in London town but Florida, we keep our vehicles topped off during ‘cane season because you never know when you need to run or sometimes even WHERE to run. In a gas vehicle you can run 200 or more miles. More than 75 miles in your electric car...you are fuqued. Just a little FYI for the prudent.

Just curious, what did your batteries cost to power your house?
Also, how long do you expect them to last?

The reason I ask is that I was under the impression they were between $10-15K and they only last about 10-15 years.

Someone told me just recently that you could now get a Tesla powerwall for $8500. That other battery storage system were less than that.

I absolutely believe the government will intimidate the manufacturers to install remote shutoff software for EVs. I don’t doubt that it already exists.

They will definitely do it for all “self driving” cars. They will have the ability to stop you dead in your tracks. The excuse will be to make way for emergency vehicles. BS.

Seeing how the government explicitly allows banks and money-transfer companies to refuse service to Republicans, gun dealers, and people who won’t use mandated pronouns, I will never be convinced otherwise.

This whole pile of Communist manipulation is rapidly coming to a head. Do not think that one election can do little more than slow it down. Things may have to get much worse before they can get any better. JMHO

“Don’t play into the Dims’ conversation on “green” energy and pretend like there are workable solutions at the utility level”

If we’re willing to spend enough money and destroy a huge amount of the environment, much of the green agenda is possible. However, the cost of it, in Dollars, Destruction, and even Carbon is HUGE...so they can only do parts of it, and the easiest path for them (considering that they are leftists, after all), will mean power ONLY being available when solar/wind conditions line up. Thus the need for intrusive control of power distribution...and we’re seeing the very start of it.

I recall one of the ice storms we had here in NH about 12 years ago. I had my gasoline powered Honda generator running for about 24 hours. I had enough gas storage to run for another 1/2 day. So, I had to go find some more gasoline to fill my three cans.

I passed three stations that were not operating because the too had either run out of gasoline or did not have power to run their pumps. Finally, the fourth station was operating.
The line stretched down the street. We waited in line for an hour. Everyone was filling two or three cans and their vehicle.

The line at Dunkin Donuts was almost as long. About a half hour to get your daily caffeine fix.

Yeah but they need the owners permission.
