August 26. 2022. A captain for a sheriff’s office in Vermont has been fired after a video appears to show him kicking a handcuffed detainee multiple times earlier this month, authorities announced Thursday.
Capt. John Grismore’s actions with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 7 were called “egregious” in a statement by Sheriff Roger Langevin. The sheriff’s office provided video Friday to NBC News of Grismore appearing to kick a trespassing suspect in the stomach and groin area. The unidentified suspect was handcuffed and shackled while he was at the sheriff’s office.
Grismore, who is running for sheriff to replace Langevin, was not immediately reached Friday afternoon. Langevin had once supported Grismore’s bid for sheriff.
“The egregious incident involving Grismore was reported to me by deputies working for me here at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office," Langevin said in the statement. "I am proud of our deputies’ actions and integrity in coming forward with this information.”

The handcuffed man sounds developmentally disabled to me.

Big deal. I’ve seen far worse than that. In the old days if you ran or resisted arrest then you could expect to get a good beating when they catch you.
BEFORE you were cuffed.
Once cuffed and a prisoner: Different game, different rules.
Even in the old days.
Crime should hurt. A kick here, a club there. Oh well.
Apparently, one of his deputies reported the kicking.
This didn’t have to end in the captain losing his job.
That deputy could have spoken directly to the captain after the fact and expressed their concerns.
That deputy could have given the captain a chance to admit the kick was wrong, and if nothing else, apologize to that prisoner for doing it.
Maybe that’s not how it’s done in any police force.
I’m willing to admit my suggestion may be naive.
And maybe, this isn’t the first time, and the deputy is done ‘not sayin nothin’.
You were just labeled as an enemy of 'our democracy' by your government. In case you are wondering, that makes you a criminal. When they have you cuffed and splayed on the street kicking and clubbing you, should the rest of US just walk on by? Nothing to see here, Panic is just another criminal getting his just desserts. Oh well.
Yes, to me as well. But he knew what his rights were!
Perp sat down, didn’t he?
What’s the big deal?
Yep, some degree of Downs Syndrome is my guess......maybe it's just me but if I encountered an individual like this, I would automatically take a compassionate course of action rather than the law enforcement demand for compliance.
That frail, elderly lady shown brutalized by the LEO's a while back comes to mind.
