All...cops...are...the...enemy.
I watched the video. The bushes around the house are all short and he’s a big guy. I’m surprised the neighbor didn’t notice him.
I hope he does sue them, else nothing will change. My question is why are cops so poorly trained? Seems like every day there is a new video showing cops demanding identifications for people who have committed no crime. Either they don’t know they don’t have to give ids or the just don’t care. Either way these cops need to be fired!
“There must not be much for the police to do in Sylacauga. The police are wasting the court’s time. Open window, throw out the case, close window.”
I know right? I can’t imagine the police in my city bothering to even answer a call about an unknown person watering a neighbor’s yard sheesh.
Fire the cop. Charge the cop with assault under color of authority. You are not required to provide ID if you were doing nothing wrong. They can question, but that’s all. The cop grabbed the man’s arm - that’s assault. They should have followed him to his home without manhandling him.
Getting attitude from a suspect doesn’t help the situation. And cops will lie to cover their asses. That it was videoed just shows that many of them ain’t too bright.
“but was an obstruction charge ever appropriate if he was not legally required to show ID?”
Obstruction is a typical “contempt of cop” charge when the cops have nothing else to justify their actions.
I think the owner of the house called the cops after seeing a suspicious character on their security video...
No.........He's going to win a lawsuit. And I hope it's huge........
“Wow, the pastor has a real chip on his shoulder and doesn’t like to cooperate. The cops were civil and polite.”
The LEO fetish for demanding ID from everyone they meet is a little much. All they’re doing is fishing for an ID in the hopes they can run the ID and find a warrant and therefore an easy collar.
This is not policing. It’s tyranny.
“And you are trespassing on private property officer, please vacate immediately”.
If you haven’t done anything wrong, you’ve got nothing to worry about. (/s)
“ Wow, the pastor has a real chip on his shoulder and doesn’t like to cooperate. The cops were civil and polite”
You kidding me? The cop is a real asshole. He was pissed off that the pastor didn’t follow his unlawful order to show his ID. It’s all about power. The pastor wad polite until the cop pulled a power play. I would have told him to $uck off and get his sergeant there. Don’t surrender your 4th amendment right. No crime, no ID. They just want to run your ID to check for warrants.
“If you haven’t done anything wrong, you’ve got nothing to worry about.”
Funny how they always object when someone aims a camera at them and says this.
I’ve long told people that if they really want to know how trustworthy their cops are then start taking video of them.
You’ll find out.
Don’t know how long this officer has been on the force, but my understanding from good sources is that the pool of police officer candidates is substantially less good than it was 2-1/2 years ago.
Exactly.
The cops must not be too smart. What kind of criminal waters flowers in someone’s yard?
LOL. Love his reply here.
Jennings was eventually taken to the police station and charges with obstructing governmental operations.
Obstructing governmental operations? Seriously. Talk about a poorly handled incident. This could have been rectified so easily but both sides overreacted. There is a growing tendency for cops to overreact when someone refuses to show them an ID, whether they are required to or not, like it's a personal challenge to their authority.
Exactly!
Proving the adage “There are very few situations that can’t be made worse by the addition of a cop.”
The truly professional home invader/robber will water the garden, till the soil and turn over your compost pile to evade detection.
