RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A federal ruling that gender dysphoria is covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act could help block conservative political efforts to restrict access to gender-affirming care, advocates and experts say.

A panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last week became the first federal appellate court in the country to find that the 1990 landmark federal law protects transgender people who experience anguish and other symptoms as a result of the disparity between their assigned sex and their gender identity.

The ruling could become a powerful tool to challenge legislation restricting access to medical care and other accommodations for transgender people, including employment and government benefits, advocates said.

I’m excited that I may be eligible for a Disability check. I feel like I’m a lesbian trapped in a male body because I am attracted to only females. Of course, in today’s world that makes me homophobic. Do I get a check for that too?

They have a right to gender affirming care. But I thought there was no such thing as gender, you are what you say you are? Aren't you? Even if you sprout the characteristics of what science would call " gender specific traits" you still don't have to acknowledge your birth gender. Right?

I'm confused, which gender are they going to affirm? The one you were born with? Or the one you want to be??

OTOH, this is the new evil working it's way in our world .. there's an old man with dementia who some people keep telling him he's the POTUS. Is that presidential affirmation? Is it right to keep teasing a demented old man?

The same with the disability of HIV/AIDS. It's covered as a disability, but won't disqualify from military service.

Another example of judicial overreach. Far too many judges follow their feelings and desires instead of the law and the Constitution. Need to be impeached and removed for the good of society.
