The Donbass Donesk/Luhansk is Ukraine land and Putin has no claim to it nor can he justify invading Ukraine on behalf of the separatists either! He invades Ukraine to steal its land, using the separatists as pawns and claiming he is liberating them as his excuse. That was his entire plan since 2014!
It was Putin’s 2014 meddling in Ukraine Donbas regions using Russian insurgents and agitators to create a diversion so Putin can invade Crimea! Putin encouraging the separatist to create breakaway republics that Putin wanted as a catalyst for his ambitions/plans since he first became president in 2000... to conquer all of Ukraine. NATO had nothing to do with it! But the zombies and clapping seals lapped the Putin BS up, that Russia was defending its security. LOL!
