Back in 2019-20 when the US was developing a lot of their oil projects in North Dakota, they were burning the natural gas of just to get rid of it.
There is so much natural gas there that it wasn't worth trying to capture.
This was all before the Jopedo scourge of course.
Bet it would be worth messing with this winter.

In turn, it was prudent to trust the Russians instead of pussing them off. Five eyes probably said them that Russia is going to collapse by now and give away free gas as reparations. There was no plan in case if this not going to work.
