Boris Johnson is fighting for political survival after two of his top ministers attacked his leadership and resigned.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid quit within 10 minutes of each other, followed by a flurry of junior ministers and aides. Critics said it was "over" for the prime minister, while Labour said the party he led was corrupted.

But Mr Johnson made it clear he planned to stay on as he moved to shore up his government with a cabinet reshuffle.

He named Nadhim Zahawi as the new chancellor, while the prime minister's chief of staff, Steve Barclay, has become health secretary.

Carrie Symonds has been the PM since at least January 2021.

Same thought came to my mind.

Makes it seem like something was up in their group.

I’m not a fan of Johnson, but I don’t know much about him.

This just seemed like two turn-coats doing what turn-coats
do.

Enoch Powell was prescient. He saw this horror coming and warned the civilized world.

There’s been dozens of resignations across governments and the civil service. We haven’t seen anything like this since the orchestration of rolling resignations in the Labour Party (led by Jeremy Corbyn at the time).

Funny old world - as much as Corbyn was a hated anti Israel old-school tankie who should never have been leader, he called a lot of things right...

1. Brexit was a good idea but Tories would balls it up by screwing up in Northern Ireland

2. NATO expansion was annoying Russia

3. The country needed an investment bank to ensure resilience of the economy, and the energy sector

4. Removing freedom of movement from the European Union without first figuring out how to replace the tens of thousands of doctors and nurses from the EU that kept the NHS running, would be shooting ourselves in the foot

5. Trident renewal would take far too long, cost too much, and lock us into the USA deciding when and how we use it. EU and UK needed an independent deterrent.

Boris is an intellectually lazy old school liberal who hitched to the Brexit bandwagon because of a schooldays rivalry with David Cameron. The only two things he’s got vaguely right are ending lockdown (by delegating it and by partying against his own rules) and holding up our obligations to Ukraine (which has overwhelming majority support).

I don’t think they are turncoats. Boris has traduced the probity of government so much that he’s damaging the Tories’ chance of reelection. That’s a red line for any Tory.

Considering that Boris Johnson is the Number One cheerleader for continuing the war in Ukraine, perhaps with him gone, the outlook for ending the fighting will improve.

Boris was born in New York, according to some around here that makes him a natural born citizen of the USA.

Maybe he should run for President...../s

35 Tory resignations so far, Boris getting shredded by Tories in a committee, and stumbling his dissembling excuses.

If Boris’ job survives the next 24 hours it’ll be a miracle - or a travesty - depending on point of view.
