Palestinian Authority capitulates, will hand over bullet that killed Al Jazeera journalist

The Palestinian Authority (PA) on Saturday evening agreed to a forensic investigation by the US of the bullet that they claim killed Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh, Kan News reported, quoting a statement by the Palestinian Authority's general prosecutor to Al Jazeera.

"We will not give the bullet that killed Shireen Abu Aqleh to Israel at all," the prosecutor added. "Due to our belief that the occupying forces fired the bullet, we have agreed that the Americans examine it. We received several guarantees from the American coordinators that the bullet will not be passed to Israel."

At the same time, an Israeli source said that the bullet will be passed by the Palestinian Authority to the Americans - who will be present at the Israeli forensic investigation.

Chain of custody probably unknowable by now. It could be just a bullet picked up at the scene, absent any physical evidence linking this bullet to the insides of the deceased.

It will not be THE bullet. It will turn out to be a 5.56 62-grain that the IDF uses. The bullet that killed him is probably a 7.62-39 fired from an AK-47 which is the go to weapon for the Palestinians.

They’ll need to calculate velocities for who may have packed it, barrel markings for length and twist, and to see if it’s truly a Muslim bullet maybe they’ll leave it in a room with a child to see if it rapes the child.

Need DNA from a valid source, preferably from the exhumed by by an independent Tech. Must match traces on bullet. If not, stop right there. If a match, then provenance of bullet by metallurgy and then record of facts as to who had what firearms on seen. If any non match, it’s not evidence as to who may have fired it....

Might be a coroner’s report of the extraction of the bullet with sufficient provenance, if it was made available early to Israeli and/or American readers. I wouldn’t bet on it. They’re of the claim-and-then-make-the-proof school of evidence, so popular in Washington these days.

Love the picture in post 2. Apparently the IDF throws unfired cartridges rather than firing them. That won't kill anyone.

I don’t think I need to point out that the Iraqi woman is holding 2 unfired cartridges, NOT bullets. Whatever the Palestinians give up is guaranteed not to be capable of being authenticated as the actual bullet recovered from the journalists body. By even accepting the bullet as such by the Israelis would arguably be verification of its authenticity. They need to reject the gesture unconditionally.
