Interesting — I’ll have to get Cooper on my radar screen. Were the Republicans as ruthless as their Dem pals they would strangle the Dems’ rising candidates in the cradle, straddling them with scandals and hoohah.
“Were the Republicans as ruthless as their Dem pals they would strangle the Dems’ rising candidates in the cradle, straddling them with scandals and hoohah.”
Cooper exists because the Republicans ran pitiful campaigns against him. The RINO Governor Pat McCrory, lost his reelection campaign to Cooper in 2016 because he ran a defensive campaign while Cooper, with his out of state money and support of the major press outlets in the state, ran an extremely aggressive campaign. In 2020, the GOP Lt. Governor was the GOP candidate for governor and never could get himself on the radar screen. Meanwhile, from out of nowhere a black conservative neophyte, Mark Robinson, won the GOP nomination for Lt. Governor in 2020, beating the GOP establishment candidate in the primary, and then surprisingly won in the general election against a black female progressive Democrat. Robinson refused to compromise his strong conservative positions during his general election campaign for governor, effectively refuting the RINO accepted belief a Republican must be run to the center in a general election in order to win.
Governor Cooper hates Mark Robinson and will not engage with him. He closes Robinson out of any state functions or activities not required of the Lt. governor by state law. The press would be screaming racism if it was a white Republican governor dissing a black Democrat lieutenant governor. However, in this situation the press is silent.
Keep your eye on Mark Robinson too. Will the GOP establishment allow the unashamed black conservative Robinson to be the party’s nominee for governor in 2022 or push him aside for a more “moderate” candidate in hopes of appealing to moderates in the liberal cities? If Robinson gets the nomination, the national Democrat party will do everything it can to prevent a black conservative Republican from becoming governor of any state. The GOP should be anticipating this campaign and already building up Robinson in the same way the Democrats promote Stacy Abrams and AOC as rising stars. Having Robinson become governor would be a huge positive message to black Americans. Yet Robinson is ignored by the RNC, likely because he is too conservative for Karl Rove and other leaders.
We live in interesting times.
