For the past seven weeks, Donna Martin has kept vigil at the bedside of her son, Christopher Charles Martin.
Some days Christopher, 27, is able to move his limbs and his eyes, and Martin believes he is trying to comfort her when he hears her cry.
“Christopher has always been a protector,” said Martin. “He is very protective of me, and all of his family members.”
An entrepreneur and musician who performs under the name Donn Sway, Christopher founded a mentoring business to help boys who want to play college football assemble their college application materials. He also helped take care of his grandmother “in her final stages of dementia,” and always stood up for his younger brother Tyler, who suffers from schizophrenia, Martin recalled.
On April 15, Christopher’s protectiveness nearly cost him his life after he was shot in the head while trying to defend friends during a “follow-home” robbery — a trend that has terrorized Angelenos since last year.

I dealt with a follow-home, and was very lucky. I had just bought a laptop at Best Buy and they don’t bother putting it in a bag - so people have to advertise it on their way out of the store. Wound up that I caught on at the last minute and drove past my house, made a U-Turn at the end of the street, with him doing the same...then started heading to the police station, at which time he veered off.
Obvious things to do are not to show off in public and not drive around in expensive-looking cars.
Originally it was mostly Orientals because they had cash businesses such as restaurants and carried cash home, and kept a lot of cash at home.
Mama always said nothing good ever happens after midnight.
So did my Dad.
More consequences that no one could possibly have predicted. I feel sorry for people there who did not vote for this crap.
Honestly if you support the Democratic regimes like they have in LA then you deserve to get robbed at gunpoint, on the street, with a knife, with a gun, at your house, car jacked all of the above because you’re a freaking idiot.
There is no reason not to take what you want.
That's why they call it organized crime. I remember when I used to think the five-shot revolver I carried should be enough. Long time ago.
According to Tippet, the “follow-home” crime surge is attributable at least in part to reluctance on the part of the office of Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon to seek the stiffest possible sentences for suspected gang members.
Or to prosecute at all. Gascon's idea of social justice and prison reform has freed the oppressed to attack primarily minorities. Could it be that CRT stuff is stupid in the real world?
The people voted for this weak on crime stance with the leftist idiots they keep putting into office. They get no sympathy from me whatsoever. They are reaping a bitter harvest from thirty years of voting marxist. This is on the people...
“While it was “heroic” of Martin, who is a “special young man to try and intervene,” Dupree said, “We advise people to give up their jewelry or watches.”” And yet, had they been armed, they could have blown them away, and put a lot of doubt in the minds of the next perps that were left alive. Examples are easy.
