Uvalde is in the part of the Rio Grande valley that has traditionally been a Democrat stronghold. That is one of the reasons that the school was a “gun-free zone”, and probably had more than a little to do with the reluctance of the law enforcement officers to go in and directly confront the shooter.
The situation in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, is eerily similar in so many ways. There, too, the law enforcement officers held back, and themselves were in a largely Democrat district in an otherwise mostly “red” state. Broward County, where Parkland is located, has about three times as many Democrats as Republicans registered, and is considered “liberal” in its outlook, and of course, the police force and sheriff’s department would not want to look “brutal”, by mounting a frontal assault on the school invader. Can’t say that worked out so good for the victims of that shooter.
In the end, just very bad optics.

Our rights are non negotiable. Go after the crazies. Reopen the mental wards closed in the 1970s and the crazies released onto the streets, after which killings took off like rocket.

Door propped open. I cannot wrap my mind around that. In a school district that is no stranger to lock downs, mostly due to wild police chases of illegals on the run. So the teacher propped open the door to gain access after retrieving her phone from her car? What adult in this day and age doesn’t have a cell within reach? Was she too lazy to let the door self lock and walk to the main entrance? I am so confused by this whole segment of the story…
