As COVID Cases Rise, U.S. Health Officials Mull Widening Additional Booster Eligibility

Health officials are considering extending the eligibility for a second COVID-19 vaccine booster dose to people under 50 amid a steady rise in cases, with the United States seeing a threefold increase over the past month.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration had in late March authorized a second booster dose of the Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech SE vaccines for people aged 50 and older, citing data showing waning immunity and the risks posed by Omicron variants of the virus.

"With regard to a fourth dose for those under the age of 50, that is going to require action from the FDA, and we're in conversations there," U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walenksy said on Wednesday....

Those over 50, particularly those 50-65, are not getting boosters nearly at the same rate as they did the first time, so the powers-that-ought-not-be have to make up for lagging sales.

Besides, we are almost two months from when those over 65 could get 2nd boosters and only a couple months away from when the push will be on for them to get 3rd boosters.

My friend told me that today her boss, who got her 2nd booster a couple weeks ago, tested positive for the 'rona and is, of course, grateful for the protection it provides, though she feels quite under the weather.

This had the effect of forcing the ten or so employees who work under this boss, at desks within 15 or so feet from her and each other, into quarantine/back to working from home, in order to keep others "safe." This will be for two weeks.

Friend is grateful for the protection from her boss's antics and witchy ways that the 'rona provides.
