...the most modest attempts to inject a little sanity into our nation’s gun laws…

Anytime someone starts talking about “modest” or “sanity” or “common sense” in relation to “gun control” hold on to your rights. It is a sure bet they are going after incremental infringements.

The latest example of loophole-seeking has emerged in the recent pandemic of “ghost guns.”

Ah, here we go. Note how they are using the word “pandemic” now – not in relation to a virus, but in relation to another issue on their wish list. The fascist left had so much success accumulating un-Constitutional powers with the pandemic, they want to begin applying those schemes to their disarmament agenda. Also note the switch from “assault weapons” to “ghost guns.” They’ve had limited (but still regrettable) success going after “assault weapons” so now they’ve set their sights (pun intended) on “ghost guns” and utilizing some lessons learned from their virus scam.

The bad news is in their illegality. Buyers of unfinished parts or components have not been required to undergo a background check and their weapons have no serial numbers, which makes them virtually impossible for police to trace.

Bravo. I think he just proved one of my points I’ve tried to make over and over. Criminals are going to break laws – kind of in their nature, it is actually the definition of criminal. Now first, “ghost guns” are not in fact illegal. Possessing one however may be illegal if such person cannot legally possess a firearm. Hmm. I wonder how making “ghost guns” illegal is going to stop someone who is already willing to break the law from breaking that law? That’s the point – someone willing to break multiple laws and commit criminal acts is not going to be deterred by yet another law. Breaking 8 laws instead of 7? Probably not a big deal. 9, 10? At what point do we learn the lesson that there are people who are going to break the law, period?

Finally, he claims ghost guns cannot be traced. So what? Literaly, so what? What good does it do to trace a firearm used in a crime? Oh look, it was stolen, or purchased illegally. About the only potential use of tracing would be to combat straw purchases. Fantastic, let’s go after something that accounts for roughly 10% to 11% of illegal gun possessions...Or, might we want to concentrate on the other 90% as being potentially more productive? Hmmm...math is hard for some...

...online ghost gun markets are a dubious consequence of the internet age, spreading like a viral tweet.

False connection here. If someone purchases a firearm from a private citizen, then it is either completely legal (some states) or requires a background check (some other {censored} states). So if people are purchasing firearms they cannot legally possess they are already breaking at least one law, then either not breaking any laws from the sale or breaking another law by circumventing the background check. Whether or not the firearm in question has a serial number or not is not an issue. Though it is obvious the author is making a snide reference to tweets – taking a backhanded shot (pun intended) at a certain famous tweeter and his supporters.

No need to prowl back alleys for your illegal blaster, even if you have a felony on your record that would disqualify you from legal gun ownership. Just go online.

Nice language. Want to be taken seriously? Don’t use terms like “blaster.” By his own admission in this scenario the perpetrator is going to break the law. But hey, sure, let’s advocate for another law because...well...if hitting your thumb with a hammer hurts let’s hit the other thumb.

As if we didn’t have enough guns on the street already. “The last thing we need in our community right now,” Cook County (Illinois) Sheriff Tom Dart said recently, “is not just more guns, but more guns that can’t be traced.”

I wouldn’t exactly be looking to Chicago or Cook County for advice on controlling violence. Well, maybe as a counter example of what not to do. An argument could be made that more guns are in fact exactly what you need. Suppose every law abiding citizen was trained and carried a firearm. That would make it pretty tough on the criminal element. Sure, there’d be losses on both sides, but it would be a significant dis-incentive for criminals to continue their ways, knowing the chances of their worthless lives coming to an abrupt end had just gone up.

Hunters, collectors and other firearm enthusiasts...

The Bill of Rights makes no such distinction. The 2nd Amendment isn’t about hunting or collecting. You can’t plant that seed here.

...there’s no need to have a ghost gun unless you’re planning to commit a crime.

Wrong. Just wrong. Completing the build of a firearm is often less expensive than purchasing one off-the-shelf. You’re not trying to harm the economically disadvantaged, are you? Some might call that racist... It also teaches potentially valuable skills in maintaining firearms. Besides, I don't care if I "need" it or not. It is the Bill of Rights, not the Bill of Needs. I have a right, and the government is expressly and explicitly forbidden from infringing upon that right.

This is followed by so many other mis-representations and outright errors...sigh I just don’t have the time to catalog them all. This guy is a hack, a shill for the disarmament left.

Isn’t Page the racist reporter who shot some teenager pool hopping in his backyard. Or do I have him confused with another hypocritical racist anti gunner black journalist?

A badly misinterpreted clause, for sure.

"Decapitation is a fairly serious injury, for sure."

It's 90% of the Federal over reach. From the FAA, the FCC, the FDA, the BATFE, and on and on and on. Each and every one a "department" that was added via the "commerce clause" as those duties are no where else found in Art 1 Sec 8.

Most definitely... for sure.

I thought that was Juan Williams brandishing at a pool-hopping teen - but was unable to verify.

What the Left doesn’t get about ‘ghost guns’ is that they aren’t used in crimes. That’s why they had to inflate the numbers by including guns with the serial numbers filed off.

It was Carl Rowan, another “guns for me, none for thee” douchebag columnist.

As more violent criminals are released from prison early, or not prosecuted at all, ghost gun numbers continue to soar. New York City has recovered more than 48 already this year. /s
