Former President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to endorse Senate candidate JD Vance in the crowded and contentious Ohio primary race, NBC News reports.

According to three individuals familiar with the matter, Trump has, in recent days, begun calling "donors and advisers" to get their opinion on a Vance endorsement, but "intense pressure" from other GOP campaigns has kept him at bay, NBC News writes.

For example, Republican candidate Josh Mandel's campaign reportedly "hit the roof" upon hearing the news of Trump's expected decisions, one individual with knowledge of the discussions told NBC News.

I hope he endorses for governor too, to finally put a stake in Mike DeWine.

That’s very nice. We’re going in a different direction. Budd, Oz, then Vance. Next in line will be Masters in Az. Think of when The Doobies brought in Michael McDonald. Pretty original wouldn’t you say?

Vance is a huge RINO.

Also, will Trump endorse anyone who bashes him?

I’ve heard him often on Bannon’s podcast, he doesn’t sound like a RINO - and Josh Mandell is trying to be too much of bomb thrower, sounds a bit crazy

From wikipedia —

“During the 2016 election, Vance was critical of Republican Party nominee Donald Trump. In a column in USA Today in February 2016, Vance wrote “Trump’s actual policy proposals, such as they are, range from immoral to absurd.”

In October 2016, he described Trump as “reprehensible” in a post on Twitter. He also stated his intentions to vote for independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin.

Vance later deleted these posts from his Twitter account and, in July 2021, apologized for his criticism of Trump, ahead of his candidacy for United States Senate.

He reversed his earlier statements on Trump, saying that he thought Trump was a good president and expressing regret about his statements during the 2016 election.

Vance visited Mar-a-Lago to meet with former President Donald Trump, alongside Peter Thiel, ahead of an official announcement.”

Apparently — sufficient groveling is required to offset any non-Trump history ... or maybe Trump just likes the guy.

Good. We don’t want traditional Republicans.

Vance is supported by Tucker, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Breitbart, Don Jr and soon to be Trump Sr.

My take is Mandel is real - Vance is part of that RINO (R)s in Ohio. JD seems to have a group of people that I usually support. Im betting they are wrong. My vote won't count - I'm not an Ohioian.

Not hard to do if you want the job. They know all the right things to say when campaigning. He’s another fake. He said in 2016 “I might have to hold my nose and vote for Hillary Clinton,”

I live in Ohio and I am NOT voting for him. I’m so sick and tired of these politicians. I voted for McConnell when I lived in Kentucky because he said all the right things....and Portman when I moved to Ohio. What a disappointment. They fooled me. I wasted my votes.

“Good. We don’t want traditional Republicans.”

Way too many people on here love a career politician who can figure out how to repeat our talking points back to us.

They are then always shocked when that politician abandons those views when in power.

Far better to support an outsider with real opinions, even if 100% of those opinions don’t overlap with ours. (Just like Trump)

“Vance endorsed Evan MCMullin, so Trump endorse Vance?”

I don’t know what to tell you. Timken is a no-go, since she’s Portman’s candidate. Gibbons put his foot in his mouth last week wanting to raise taxes. Mandel has lost before. And Mandel and Gibbons got in that childish tiff a couple weeks ago.

Vance seems to be what’s left. He may make a good Senator. If what he says is true, he wasn’t impressed with Trump and endorsed McMullin, but liked what Trump did as president and so changed his mind.

We’ll see.

Ohio voter here. If he endorses Vance I’m done with Trump. Endorsing Vance is almost as idiotic as endorsing Dr. Oz in Pennsylvania. Has somebody been feeding him magic mushrooms?

Trump sometimes goes by who he thinks would be strongest in the general election. Given the impending red wave and the fact that Ohio is a Republican leaning state, that should not be a major consideration this year. If Ohio was a very blue state that would be different.

Sorry, but saying he changed his mind now to get the job is not convincing at all. Why should I trust that? Sounds like a politician to me.
