Russia to end cooperation on the International Space Station

Russia will no longer cooperate with Western nations on the International Space Station (ISS) until sanctions due to its invasion of Ukraine are removed, the head of its space agency announced.

Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin declared the move on Twitter, saying that Russia will end its partnership with NASA and the European Space Agency on the space station, which launched in 1998.

The announcement came after weeks of speculation and threats on Russia's part to pull out of the cooperative space venture.

At the beginning of March, retired NASA astronaut Terry Virts said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is in the process of “destroying his own space industry.”

"There’s just not a lot of business that’s going to be happening for the Russian space agency in the coming decades because of Putin’s evil war that he’s waging," Virt, a former commander of the ISS, told Fox News.

He accused Putin of overseeing a period of little Russian innovation and funnelling oil and gas profits to enrich his inner circle instead of facilitating space technology companies such as Blue Origin and Space X.

The solution to the whole fossil fuels conundrum may lie in Outer Space. Naturally, Putin would be opposed to any solution. Conundrums are his friends.

No sense pretending the world is sane, or that we’re actual buddies.

We should be, but we aren’t.

Hell of a place to have a falling out. What do aggrieved parties do, call a cab?

ALL power is nuclear power.

The sun is the most powerful nuclear reactor there is, but its power is most intense outside the atmosphere. Put some panels up there, cover the bright side of the moon with them, and if Anton Tesla is right, there is a way to transmit the power wirelessly down to earth.

Better than looting the lands and rights of primitive peoples in sh!thole countries. There’s been altogether too much of that.

Sasha Cohen can play the Russian. Will Smith the American. Odd Couple in outer space. I can see it now. Somebody call Netflix.

We’ve spent the last 30 years trying to bring Russia into the sphere of modern nations. Now, we’re determined to drive them back to isolation. But the world is not the same as it was in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed. Russia will not be our partner in anything anymore, but there are enough other countries who don’t care about our ways that will gladly embrace them. We seem to be redefining and drawing up new battle lines for the new adversarial world.

Leonard Cohen wanted the Berlin Wall back. He saw the future and it’s murder.

Agree, but it also has to have Joe Pesce so he can say things like “Who put phosgene in the fagiole? Do I amuse you?”

This is good.

The international space station does scientific research that could be done at a fraction of the cost via autonomous scientific payloads to orbit. The vast majority of the payload to orbit is that which keeps humans alive. The scientific payload is small. The space station is a political entity and not science as its prime purpose. Its political purpose was no more the day Putin invaded the Ukraine.

The best thing for science would be, de orbit it over the Pacific and use the same monies for autonomous scientific payloads to orbit.

There is no ‘bright side’ of the moon. There is a ‘near’ side of the moon, which always faces earth, and a ‘far’ side of the moon which never faces earth, but both sides get equal amounts of sunshine.

I was hoping it would last until the Axiom stuff could settle in and become its own thing. This might give US/NASA more incentive to bring Blue Origin’s Orbital Reef online sooner, but who knows.

He can be the oligarch who demanded to be put in orbit and now can’t get home. Sasha Cohen as the Russian cosmonaut who has to keep him happy, and he’s impossible, and Will Smith as the American who whoops Pesce upside the head. The Russian thanks him while Pesce’s unconscious. Chris Rock can be the mechanic who keeps things running and gets non-stop abuse.

Well, somehow collect unfiltered sunshine on a steady basis out there. Perhaps mobile panels scooting around on very advanced robot wheels? It can be done.
