Why don’t we export soy beans? Why can’t we plant fallow fields?

“Why can’t we plant fallow fields?”

Because that’s not what the government wants. It’s really that simple.

Fertilizer and fuel costs figure into the equation.

The raw materials for fertilizer come predominantly from Russia and Ukraine. Feel great to put a Ukraine flag on your Facebook profile and demand more and more sanctions and no fly zones and self righteously call anyone who wanted the USA to stay neutral a Putin puffer.

Then you realize that famers won't be able to grow crops. Boy, everyone sure showed Putin. A little mass starvation is totally worth it!

And I'm not talking about you, specifically. Just the general tide of unthinking people who don't recognize the consequences of recklessly provoking global instability because Joe Biden is a belligerent moron. Diplomacy before the invasion should have been pursued, a summit held. Anything but what that idiot did. And here we are.

We can plant and harvest tons more food. The problem is the countries that need it want it for free. Also a slight problem with lack of fertilizer.
