RUSSIAN state TV has aired a discussion on seizing the Baltic states as Nato bolster Eastern European allies with thousands more troops.

Vietnam would have been a lot less deadly - on both sides - if the war had been prosecuted correctly. And, some think, early on, it might have been preventable, without losing the larger “wars”. But, that’s another discussion - a long one.
Past that, we really DID win that smaller war, but then failed to give South Vietnam the support it needed to maintain that (unlike the US trained Afghans, the South Vietnamese fought well when well armed).
The lack of historical perspective on FR astounds me:
In the bigger picture, the Vietnam War badly drained the USSR, so much so that their larger plans were thwarted. And eventually the USSR’s economy failed in the attempt to keep up with the West AND maintain their military threat. See: Reagan.
Unfortunately, as usual, the US (Clinton, really, and his State Dept.) dropped the ball, and Russia reverted back to form.
Well, OK. Anything *they* report has to be true, right? 🙄
