The requirement for Ukraine borders was stressed by 'Oleksiy Arestovych', adviser to the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office..... He was one of Zelensky's partners in their acting careers and production studio .

He was alsoa speaker for the Trilateral group meeting regarding negotiations on the Donbass area and later on the Minsk agreement...Both failed.

Along with this fellow Andriy Yermak - a 'Ukrainian Film Producer' who Zelensky appointed Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine on 11 February 2020 -Yermak became acquainted with Zelenskyy in 2011, when Zelenskyy was the general producer of the TV channel Inter. The two became friends

You’re right, he wasn’t. He was a coke sniffer in 2014, probably still is.

Zelensky insists on recognition of Ukraine's borders as of 1991?

Who is he insisting to, the United States?

Jao Bai-din refuses to recognize the borders of the United States and actively aids illegal alien invaders.

Well, he’s condemning a lot of Ukrainians to death with that position. By insisting on ruling over areas filled with ethnic Russians who do not want to be ruled by Kiev, he will prolong the war and make the death toll soar even higher.

HE won’t be getting Crimea back by any means so he might just as wll scrap that part - And Donbass and Lugansk will be protectorats most likely. But they won’t be getting 1991 borders.

BTW I was reading some of the former Interviews by the aids around Zelensky - always singing the same tune - more money from the USA and that was before the war. ..and still rmeains - these guys just want more of more as they’re revenue parasites on Europe and the US.

I believe they’re stalling - the longer Zelensky and his co-horts can keep the international and private individuals revenue sources, and military re-sources, coming into Ukraine the happier they’re going to be. The leadership conitnues now and will after this war to be parasites for Europe and the US....while they’re country will get little to recover with.

No, it doesn’t mean anyone Putin doesn’t like. Read about the Azov group. It’s the Fourth Reich. Their uniforms have Nazi insignia on them. They proudly state that they are Nazis.

This is like Hitler invading Poland. Tolerating the tyrant’s incrementalism is over. The West is awake. So it will be war.

It is an accurate weapon. But the optic on the PU sniper version is low power and very outdated. There are (or at least there are supposed to be) more modern sniper weapons available. One option is the Dragunov, which has been in the inventory since the late 60’s and has been updated with newer tech since then.

>>I saw a photo the other day of a Russian carrying a Mosin-nagant PU sniper. That was supposed to have been replaced by the dragunov over 50 years ago.

>functionally equivalent to the rem 700 pss, in the one shot one kill sense

hmm, they can still shoot ok. I made an M91 slightly better than 1 MOA by following this rede. The barrel heats up and moves a bit if you go too fast (easy to do with the original bolt). IIRC it was a Tula. I’ve never seen any of the “Снайперская” (sniper) ammo (had to look that up on wikipedia, haha). The regular 7.62x54r is a trifle hotter than a .308, but the sniper rounds were designed roughly equivalent.

I had (maybe still have) an M44 that was like 6 MOA, but sub-MOA with the bayonet extended. They laughed a me at the range when I flipped the pointy bit out to shoot at rifle target, but I made some easy money with that rifle...I have to find that thing, I put it away clean and oiled when I moved but I haven’t seen it for 6 years.

I saw a photo the other day of a Russian soldier carrying a Mosin-(N)agint PU sniper (rifle).

While it is most certainly NOT a Barrett M82, and the Dragunov SVD-63 looks better on paper, the Mosin-Nagint 1891/30 with a 3.5 power PU scope remains a very effective sniper rifle.

It uses the same 7.62x54mmR cartridge as the Dragunov, generating generally the same muzzle velocity and effective ranges. For the same bullet weight and barrel length, the muzzle velocity and energy of the 7.62x54MmR is comparable to the NATO 7.62x51, but tends to penetrate farther and not create as much of a wound channel.

The Dragunov is heavier (9.48 lbs) than the Mosin-Nagint (8.8 lbs) with a shorter barrel length (24.4 in versus 29 in) and is thinner, lighter in weight and chrome plated. However, Dragunov barrels tend to wear faster than the Mosin-Nagint barrels.

Both barrels use 4 right hand grooves. The Dragunov was originally designed with a 1:12.4 in twist rate that had to be increased to 1:9.4 in to accommodate tracer and armor piercing incendiary rounds. That change reduced the accuracy for sniper rounds by 19%. The Mosin-Nagint has a 1:10 in twist rate.

The Dragunov is more finicky with regard to ammunition, and can be prone to “slam fire” and failure to feed with low quality ammunition.

Optics are better on the Dragunov, (4 power versus 3.5) particularly the Ballistic Drop Compensated (BDC) scopes. But, they have reliability issues in the field.

In sum, the performance of either as a sniper rifle has far more to do with the experience and training of the operator than the weapon itself.

As an example, the Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä, who is credited with 505 kills in World War II, did not use a scope on his Mosin-Nagint because the Russian scope and mount design required the shooter to raise himself to high and expose himself to much. This is because Russian designs raise the scope so as not to block the iron sights for close-in combat. In addition, the scopes tended to reflect sunlight, compromising the sniper’s position.

Even with a sun shade and coated lenses, Russian optics are far more prone to reflection problems than U.S. optics.

In sum, while perhaps not my first choice as a sniper weapon, a Mosin-Nagint in the hands of a trained operator is a very credible sniper threat. Note also that the M1903 Springfield chambered in .30-06 was extensively used by the United States Marine Corps as a sniper rifle throughout the Vietnam war, and is probably still in use in some places today.

As with all things involving weapons on Free Republic, the discussion is often more “theological” than practical, and Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV).

I don’t have a dog in this fight, it just seemed a little odd that they’re still fielding a mosin. The Russian military has spent a lot of time and energy portraying themselves as a modern army. Some of the things they’ve done seem to put the lie to that image.
