Five years ago, Ukraine’s Maidan uprising ousted President Viktor Yanukovych, to the cheers and support of the West. Politicians and analysts in the United States and Europe not only celebrated the uprising as a triumph of democracy, but denied reports of Maidan’s ultranationalism, smearing those who warned about the dark side of the uprising as Moscow puppets and useful idiots. Freedom was on the march in Ukraine.
Today, increasing reports of far-right violence, ultranationalism, and erosion of basic freedoms are giving the lie to the West’s initial euphoria. There are neo-Nazi pogroms against the Roma, rampant attacks on feminists and LGBT groups, book bans, and state-sponsored glorification of Nazi collaborators.
These stories of Ukraine’s dark nationalism aren’t coming out of Moscow; they’re being filed by Western media, including US-funded Radio Free Europe (RFE); Jewish organizations such as the World Jewish Congress and the Simon Wiesenthal Center; and watchdogs like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and Freedom House, which issued a joint report warning that Kiev is losing the monopoly on the use of force in the country as far-right gangs operate with impunity.
Five years after Maidan, the beacon of democracy is looking more like a torchlight march.

No mention of Hunter Biden of course.
Indeed. The Nation has been pretty consistent in its support for Russian imperialism. I used to think it was a Marxist publication. In reality, it’s a pamphlet for advancing Russian interests.
Everyone involved in Ukraine, including our own DC oligarchs are as pure as the wind driven snow. Didn’t you get the memo. This is all about the monster, Putin. No distractions, please.
[Never could figure out why the left says that overthrowing an elected government is “democracy” in foreign countries but challenging a stolen election in the USA is “insurrection.”]
America still has skinhead Nazi’s marching in the streets occasionally. Guess why Russia won’t invade.
“Yanukovych was elected president in 2010, defeating Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. The election was judged free and fair by international observers.[7][8]
“November 2013 saw the beginning of a series of events that led to his ousting as president.[9][10][11] Yanukovych rejected a pending EU association agreement, choosing instead to pursue a Russian loan bailout and closer ties with Russia.
“This led to protests and the occupation of Kyiv’s Independence Square, a series of events dubbed the “Euromaidan” by proponents of aligning Ukraine toward the European Union.”

A month ago no one would blink an eye if you said Nuland staged a coup in Ukraine in 2014 to install an American puppet now it’s considered Russian misinformation.
Not sure what the distinction is between being overthrown, and escaping from a rebellion.
By the way: You are 100% right about the Delta 88. They simply don’t make what I tell my kids are ‘real cars’ anywmore.

The Nation eh? Another left wing rag.
“Well you see, that’s because back then, the parties were switched”
A friend’s uncle born in Ukraine said it is “the most anti-Semitic place on Earth”

We have a winner

In other words, he was in the process of becoming Putin’s other puppet - Belarus’s Lukashenko. After Yanukovich fled impending election defeat, the Ukrainian legislature’s follow-on elections resulted in his party going from 1/3 of the popular vote to 1/10. He fled to avoid defeat and likely prison, where he had parked his political opponents, including Yulia Timoshenko.
Aaron Maté, who writes for The Nation, was probably the finest writer out there destroying the Trump Russia hoax.
Notice how the ultra left communist rag calls their one step away Nazis ultra right when they are joined at the hip with them.
Good point!
