Regarding cheer leading for the corrupt Ukraine:

What is the neoconservative argument as to why I should pay more for my gas and oil and how much should we allow Biden to increase these necessities?

They don’t care about what you pay, or consumer prices. For neocons, war is the goal. Having a bitter enemy is the highest value.

On domestic policy, neocons are supportive of a massive welfare state, unrestricted immigration, and high marginal taxes, although they de-emphasize these positions in their writings and discussions.

The EU’s decision, or this thread?

Not surprised, but we didn’t even get past the first post in the thread before someone was already diverting the discussion.

Yes, I think Biden will talk about "shared sacrifice for Ukraine" tonight.

Neocons seem to despise middle America.

I'm no expert here but if Ukraine's only two options are aligning with Russia or aligning with the EU it seems that the EU would be the better option for the people...and the world. IMO the EU isn't quite as evil,or dangerous,as Russia.

The European Union is a trade zone, not a military alliance. I don’t see a problem with the EU admitting Ukraine. Anyway it’s up to the EU, not the U.S.

>>Neocons seem to despise middle America.

I’ve gotten to know several prominent neocons, including some well-known writers.

They really do think ordinary people are unable to run their own lives, and that we need a powerful organizing pressure (like a war & an evil external enemy) to focus the energies of “mass men” and cleanse the culture of negative influences. They see this as one of the primary benefits of a war.

They will never state this so directly, because it sounds elitist and is elitist. They would point to writers like Ortega y Gasset as an influence.

So you want to have the status quo with brutal dictators?

Amazed at the nonsensical posts I read here.

During WW2, people like you would have advocated we leave Hitler alone.

So you would have gone to war in 1939?

I think if Ukraine aligns themselves with the west we will continue to see low grade civil war there for the future if this doesn’t escalate.

A much better solution for the people would be for Ukraine to kick both east and west out and declare their neutrality.

I doubt any government cares about the well being of the Ukrainian people including their own.

--- "The European Union is a trade zone, not a military alliance. "

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/eu-seeks-rapid-response-military-force-two-decades-after-first-try-2021-05-05/

The EU has been dreaming of an EU level and led military, with Macron at times leading the way, and at times others. To think that either the EU or NATO have been static entities would be ignoring the history.

Here's the "official" European Commission take: "However, building up EU defence is not only about spending more, but also about spending efficiently. EU countries collectively are the second largest defence spender in the world after the US but an estimated €26.4 billion are wasted every year due to duplication, overcapacity and barriers to procurement. As a result, more than six times as many defence systems are used in Europe than in the United States. This is where the EU can provide the conditions for countries to collaborate more. If Europe is to compete worldwide, it will need to pool and integrate its best capabilities as it is estimated that by 2025 China will become the second largest defence spender in the world after the US."

Source: https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/headlines/security/20190612STO54310/eu-army-myth-what-is-europe-really-doing-to-boost-defence

This, from only last month: "To create a large standing European army, presumably under the direction of the EU, would require buy-in from not only France but also Germany, Italy, Poland and other major European militaries. While U.S. officials often complain (appropriately) about the failure of European NATO allies to meet the stated goal of spending 2% of their GDP on their militaries, the collective European defense budget (including the U.K.) is around $300 billion — more than triple that of Russia. A serious standing military under EU direction is well within their financial scope, and Putin's increasing adventurism may push them in that direction. "

Your assertion that "the European Union is a trade zone, not a military alliance" is rapidly proving incorrect.
