Lincoln’s birthday was never a Federal holiday. Many states honored it, but not FedGov. The proper name of the holiday is Washington’s Birthday even though it is only occasionally on his actual birthday.
Fun fact, the day he was born, the calendar read February 11, 1731. This was the old Julian calendar. Britain added 11 days to the calendar when it and its colonies shifted to the Gregorian calendar. Britain also moved New Years Day from March 25 back to January 1. So we now say he was born on February 22, 1732.
To nitpick, the British dropped 11 days in order to make the change to the Gregorian calendar. There were protests in England by people who thought they had had 11 days stolen from them: “Give us back our 11 days!” The change did have the effect of making dates 11 days later in the year.
