Moscow Times ^ | 2/21/22 | AFP

Russian President Vladimir Putin will recognize the independence of eastern Ukraine's separatist republics, the Kremlin said in a statement Monday, adding that he had informed the French and German leaders of his decision.

"In the near future, the president plans to sign the order," the Kremlin said. It added that French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had "expressed disappointment" over the decision in phone calls with Putin.

Yeah, they’ll be independent the same way East Germany was independent of Russia.

And…as soon as he does, the leaders of those republics will invite the Russians in to provide “security.”

This could be a very bad thing.

Ukraine needs to make peace with these territories and allow them to self-govern.

He can then invade when he feels like it, with the ‘excuse’ that ethnic Russians there are suffering ‘persecution’, the same rationale that Hitler used to invade Poland.

Meanwhile in Washington, our ‘president’ is probably more worried about what flavor of pudding Jill will be serving him this afternoon before sleepy time.

“will invite the Russians in to provide “security.””

They have been there since +7 years.

So, this was likely his intention all along, and the reason for the troops buildup. It gives him his land buffer from NATO that he would have lost if/when Ukraine is granted membership.

“German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had “expressed disappointment” over the decision in phone calls with Putin.”

Germans should really STFU about anything having to do with eastern Ukraine for another century or so.

It makes perfect sense. The provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk are not really "Ukrainian" in the sense that ethnic Ukrainians live there. Donetsk and Luhansk are populated by ethnic Russians. Most of these people want an end to the low-level warfare that's engulfed their lives for the past eight years and to make their way as parts of a much larger Russian homeland.

I'm sure this is part of a larger deal that was cut years ago. Nobody wants the running sore of conflict in Donetsk and Luhansk. It's causing problems for everybody.

I think the Poopy Pants pResident is more worried about when his butt will be wiped first.

You certainly have the right idea. That's how it was. Crimea always had super special powers after Russia reunited it (illegally I believe) with Ukraine.

The coup in Ukraine which brought Mr. Chocolate to Power was a farce. One of the first things he did was to say...no Russian is to be spoken...It is not to be taught in schools...and IICR, he owned all the media stations.

Zelensky just doesn't want his world to fall apart. I respect him but he's caught in a spider web.

They had 8 years to do so. Macron could force them to do so not to be “disappointed.”
It is a crime against humanity to keep these territories in the grey zone for so long.

Meanwhile in DC they continue supporting the Kurds breaking away a third of Syria. DC pushed for moslem Kosovo to break away from Serbia. DC is even pushing for DC to break away from the USA and form a new state.

DC has no problem with ethnic areas breaking away from historic arrangements and borders.. until they do.

Those troops do this little routine EVERY DAMN YEAR...it is nothing new. Brandon needs a win....and what would be better than Russia Russia Russia.

That is, it was a good idea until Durham issued his report....and Hillary and Obama have now gone bonkers with what to do.

Kiev's decision to target civilian infrastructure (electricity, water) in Donetsk and Lugansk added new and urgent instance of crimes against humanity; this is likely one of the factors in Putin's decision.

Yep, the Ukrainian shelling intensified since Feb.18, the media ignores and says about “Russian false flags” instead.

“Nobody wants the running sore of conflict in Donetsk and Luhansk. It’s causing problems for everybody.”

There are three groups who benefit from it. The defense industry and their patrons in DC. NATO that is always searching for a reason to be relevant. And of course, Kiev. Kiev really likes keeping their violent radicals out east, surrounding Lugansk, Donetsk and Crimea. The LAST thing Kiev wants is that Svoboda, Azov and other elements returning to Kiev and getting bored.
