Gov. Kate Brown on Tuesday extended Oregon’s declaration of a state of emergency until June 2022, citing the emergence of the omicron variant to the coronavirus.

“As Oregon prepares for what could be our worst surge in hospitalizations during this pandemic, I know that this is not the beginning of the new year any of us had hoped for,” Brown said. “Time and again over the last two years, Oregonians have proven that we will stand with each other in our most difficult times. Your actions have saved lives, and it is because we have worked together to keep each other safe that Oregon still has some of the lowest infection and mortality rates in the nation. Please, do your part again––get vaccinated, get your booster shot, and wear a mask.”

These governors were delighted with the exhiliration and excitement of wielding power (Whitmer in MI, Cuomo in NY and others) and then couldn’t let go. MI legislature passed bills that Gov. Whitmer (D) chose to ignore about lockdowns and mandatory actions.

This is an interesting study of Canada vs. the US on such powers. A little here....

. And there the parallel history ended. Canada adopted a comprehensive constitutional revision that brought all emergency powers within constitutional understandings. The U.S., on the other hand, continued its use of statutory patches to regulate the relationship between the executive and legislature in times of crisis. As a result, the reactions of the two countries to the events of 9/11 were quite different. Canada responded with a moderate use of exceptional powers, while the US plunged into more extreme uses of emergency powers.

When war, rebellions, and dangers erupt, most constitutional governments step outside their usual procedures to deal with regime-threatening conflicts. ...In the 1970s, both Canada and the U.S. came to grips with the use of emergency powers that had spun out of control, but they reacted with different solutions.
((article continues that the leaders in the US states could make up their emergency solutions to crises.))

Just before COVID19 hit, Oregon reorganized their medical care system by closing many smaller community hospitals and building urgent care facilities instead. The idea was to treat the critically ill in the larger regional hospitals and focus on treating ER visits at the local urgent cares. Unfortunately, that strategy left Oregon without enough ER/ICU beds to handle the COVID pandemic. At the end of summer, they exasperated the situation further by mandating mRNA vaccination and fired those who refused. This reduced available beds even further as beds are determined by whether there is staff to attend.

If masks and the various mandates worked???

Why do we still have to wear masks and put up with new and old mandates?

What happened to the 2 week shut down/lock down mandate? Aka: -Two weeks to flatten the curve!!??

Why is old Covid 19 still with us and new variants like Delta and Omicron with us now, at basically the same time frames.

If it weren’t for the CORRUPT Portland TV news, Tyrant Kate Brown would never have been governor. We would have had a republican governor.

The corruption charges that removed Khitzaber, right after the election, were kept hidden, by request, until after the election. Tyrant Kate Brown moved into the governorship without election by way of being secretary of state. The democrat machine carried it from there.

Oh, of course. Much more power to be had when there is an emergency in effect.

There is no exception in the constitution for when the Govt decides an emergency were declared.

Not sure it matters. The mail-in voting is just fraud waiting to happen.
