Omicron is now credited for 73% of new COVID-19 infections in the last week. In areas around New York, the Southeast, the industrial Midwest and the Pacific Northwest, the Omicron estimate is even higher, responsible for around 90% of new infections.
In the week prior, it accounted for only 12.6% of positive cases, making it the most rapidly spreading variant the country has seen yet...

It will be great if it chokes off the more dangerous Delta variant, but I have not heard much about that yet.
Fortunately the vaccine producers used their crystal balls to generate vaccines and boosters that made everyone immune to the Omicron variant...

Omicron - more infectious but less/fewer severe cases from it; progressing like the seasonal flu.
A rhino virus must mutate to the point of killing fewer hosts, because killing the host ends the virus the host contains as well, and thus the host cannot continue to spread the virus. If a virus were to continue to kill at “pandemic” levels it could be the end of the virus, so the virus mutates from survivors, having been attenuated to survive in such hosts. Over time the virus and its most common hosts reach a balance that kills fewest hosts and keeps the virus around.

well, since Biden’s polling numbers on covid response have tanked, and people are openly ignoring dem governors mandates because they are sick of the same song and dance, hard to see how continuing covid fearmongering is going to win the midterms...
in all actuality, it appears inevitable that the dems take a real bath in 2022, and a turnaround in the House majority to be a done deal...off year election history bears this out dramatically...
I believe you have just described a biological phenomenon known as Mueller’s Ratchet.
It is the same natural principle that withered off the Spanish Flu, the Hongkong Flu and SARS-COV-1.

Omicron is WEAK and MILD, and unworthy of all this hysteria.
OF COURSE it has! It’s the much more contagious, much less lethal cousin. So, everyone gets it, a few with serious comorbidities might die from complications from it, but most everyone else recovers, and we go on.
There’s a fork in the road when it comes to viral mutations, they can become more lethal, or more easily spread. In the VAST MAJORITY of cases, they always trend toward becoming easier to spread, as killing the host hurts the ability to be transmitted.
When will the mid-term election variant come out?
Just supposedly got our first case in MO 5 days ago in St Louis. My wife works at a nursing home and has avoided covid up until this morning. Tested last night and found out this morning. Have no idea if it’s Delta or Omicron but hoping for the latter. We’ve got everything we need from the Zelenko/FLCCC protocols except for AZM but that will be in tomorrow or the next day. Feed store had to order it. Horse IVM and fish AZM. We’re a family of sea horses.
The effect is similar but the method of “reproduction” is neither sexual nor asexual and Mueller’s Ratchet was explaining how and why sexual reproduction was more productive than asexual reproduction. As a virus has neither method available to reproduce it must invade a host, obtain access the nucleus of cells of he host and get the cell nucleus to make more copies of the virus.
But if the virus were to mutate so as to increasingly kill more of its hosts, it (that strain) will more often die with those hosts. But strains of the virus that don’t kill the host will be more likely to survive to the point of being passed to other hosts. Thus, in time, a rhino virus infecting humans usually has an attenuated survival killing fewer hosts but continuing to be around - like all the different viruses in the seasonal flue are today. We have not “eliminated” them but they are no longer “pandemic” in their rates of fatal illness.

Ever notice the media’s lack of reporting on the actual number of Omicron deaths? I noticed WAPO reported the first recorded fatality associated with the omicron variant about a week ago. Seems to me that the mortality rate of this recent variant is extremely low?

Headline should say that delta is gone, only virus left is omicron.
That’s because it’s scarier the other way.
