San Francisco DA, others denounce mayor’s plan for police

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco’s top prosecutor on Monday pushed back on the mayor’s call for increased policing to battle rampant drug dealing in one of the city’s most vulnerable neighborhoods, urging her instead to put more money into housing and treatment that get at the root causes of crime.

The politically embattled District Attorney Chesa Boudin was joined by public defender Mano Raju and addiction specialists at a news conference announced after Mayor London Breed last week declared a state of emergency in the long-troubled Tenderloin. Open drug dealing and shootings in the neighborhood have made children and seniors afraid to go outside.

Like many other overwhelmingly Democratic cities, San Francisco is struggling to address crime amid police reforms prompted by the 2020 murder of George Floyd. While overall reports of crime are down from San Francisco’s pre-pandemic levels, viral video footage of brazen shoplifters and tales of home burglaries have forced an uncomfortable spotlight on a city that takes pride in its vaunted compassion and tolerance.

So in this case it sounds like I agree with the Commie mayor, London Breed, and not the commie DA Boudin. I don’t know who the third guy is, but undoubtedly another commie.

An offshore quake sufficient to send a massive tsunami across that hellhole would improve the entire world. Present company excepted of course.

How can any thinking person take seriously a DA named for a cop killer who’s virtual parents were Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dhorn? Yet another reason nobody could pay me to step foot in SF anymore.

I find this rather funny. The Mayor is doing this only out of political expediency. She is no more an advocate of law and order than they are.

Rehab and treatment were proven to be ineffective back in the 1960’s.

“She said the city would no longer tolerate open drug use or dealing and people will have to accept treatment or go to jail.”

She has finally realized that while some drug users will accept treatment, most will not without the threat of jail as the alternative. Putting the users between a rock and a hard place while arresting and prosecuting dealers is the only way to address crime and the largest group of “homeless”.

See the new book “San Fransicko” for a great analysis of how SF got to where it is today -— and a realistic approach to dealing with the “homeless” issue.

I noticed that, too. I immediately looked at the link and was shocked to see that it was AP. No doubt the writer has had to issue an apology and is awaiting whether suspension is next. With major layoffs in the news industry, I doubt there was a copy editor who reviewed the writing.

what is a deterrent, an absolute hell on earth that you would never want to experience again in your life time this is what’s missing from incarceration and rehab.
