Ex NFL player Phillip Adams had 'unusually severe' levels of CTE when he killed six people in April before turning the gun on himself, pathologists revealed on Tuesday as they shamed the NFL for allegedly ignoring his pleas for help.
Adams, 32, played 78 NFL games for six different teams across six seasons before retiring in 2015.
In April, he shot and killed Dr. Robert Lesslie, his wife Barbara, two of their grandchildren and two HVAC workers at the Leslie home in South Carolina.
There is no motive for the attack and the only connection between them was that they lived close to each other.
*** Doctors also revealed that Adams had amphetamines in his system that he had a prescription for on the day of the shooting, as well as Kratom, an over-the-counter drug which can have the same effects as opioids.

What is CTE? Why does every medical condition always have to be reduced to a set of initials?

They use acronyms for a lot of things because the full names don’t mean anything to a layperson with no professional training.

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (too many hits to the head made his brain turn to mush).
CTE can’t be used as an excuse to murder people.
If its an excuse to murder people then its serious an excuse to lock people up in a health facility.
The survivors of those poor victims should sue the NFL for billions. It’s already been established that the NFL knew they were destroying their players through preventable concussions, etc. They’ve admitted it. Portray this guy as a victim of NFL negligence which caused the murders. Heck, it might even be true. Everyone should sue the NFL.
Thanks. I have a “thing” about the use of initials to describe medical conditions. I have a sister who does it all the time, and I think it gives her a sense of being “in the know.”
I read a lot of news all the time, but I have zero memory of hearing about this mass murder. Unfortunately. there are so many such mass killings nowadays, it’s not a shock to have overlooked a few of these instances. The USA is a huge continent. Not all news makes it coast to coast.
I have no doubt CTE and perhaps drug were the major factors.
BUT with leftist, race-mongering, critical-race theory and black victimhood ideology always present in society - this is the logic and simplistic narrative that a mentally-ill person full of rage will grab on to.
Because people outside medicine have no more clue about chronic traumatic encephalopathy than they do about CTE. And laymen can say and spell CTE which they probably can’t do with chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
There is no excuse but there are reasons.
Remember Charles Whitman? The Texas Tower shooter? Had a brain tumor.
Actually the lawsuit was that they were insisting concussions left no permanent damage and were denying post retirement health benefits for that long term damage. Nobody really said anything about preventable, cause it’s a contact sport, you can’t prevent them all. And they settled out of court, so technically nothing is established.

I was shot in the head RVN 1969 and a few years back an evil car hit me on my bicycle. Two weeks asleep, twenty days hospital...Not a mark on my helmet. I slept for about 16 hours a day the year after the bike event, then years of not-so-good sleep at all...The damage is cumulative.
Almost normal now?
And I’m in very good condition to some I know.
A Corpsman and a mine blast, physically all there but inside his head not good, I pray that his pain will pass.
VA hospitals are full of those like him.
I agree but they try to turn those reasons into absolving the person of responsibility.
And as I said if they suffer from such a condition that can absolve them of legal responsibility for murder and violent behavior, then those people need to be locked up in a health facility and monitored and treated. Then they have a dangerous condition that prevents them from stopping themselves from harming/killing others and should be identified and treated for that, and kept apart from others so they can’t snap or break and murder innocent people.
If the victims are white it's not news - unless it's kids in a school.
