What is CTE? Why does every medical condition always have to be reduced to a set of initials?

CTE = Chronic traumatic encephalopathy

They use acronyms for a lot of things because the full names don’t mean anything to a layperson with no professional training.

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (too many hits to the head made his brain turn to mush).

Because people outside medicine have no more clue about chronic traumatic encephalopathy than they do about CTE. And laymen can say and spell CTE which they probably can’t do with chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
