The ideal time for achieving real change in higher ed was 30 or even 40 years ago. The next best time is now.

Went to college in the 1980’s. Basically a few liberal professors, the type that grew up in the 1960’s with anti-war and anti-racists views. Okay, fine.
Then went to grad school in 1990. Probably, no undoubtedly, the fall of the Soviet Union got their goat. It went insane with all this hokey multiculturalism and diversity nonsense. It’s not like we did not have minorities in the 1980’s, we just didn’t give it a second thought.

Great article, and thanks for posting. Higher education has been captured for enough decades now to have built a self-perpetuating shark tank that now finds itself threatened from a direction nobody saw coming. The CoVid issue - it's more than a disease, it's a social movement - has suddenly plunged the well-populated leftwing playpens into an environment of potential disaster: online learning. It means fewer lifetime academic sinecures and fewer opportunities for the politically correct but intellectually incompetent to have entire departments built around their latest grievances. Transsexual Studies isn't going to be the lifelong teat that Women's or Queer or African-American Studies turned into, degrees in which largely serving only to provide the means to perpetuate the scam. It may still happen but they're going to have to work a lot harder to make it happen.
Academia in America finds itself, like so much else on the Left, in a trap of its own making. They never really wanted to change the system once they became the system, and now they can't stop it. Let it burn.
