This is an unintentionally brilliant plan. Not only will they create new low cost housing but eventually Venice Beach housing will become more affordable as well.

They had to know this was coming. I’ve personally witnessed the once safe affluent LA area neighborhoods shrink and become surrounded by hordes of violent savages, low life, morons and assorted kinky dings. Look at OC....They used to call the 605 the great white fence...Now it’s been moved east to the 55 Fwy. The Valley? Ferrrget about it.

Building crap next to diamonds is a "taking without just compensation" for the property owners that paid significant money for nice homes in nice neighborhoods. The city should be sued to insolvency for doing that.

...a 136-unit apartment building... will cover 2.7 acres and ... will cost $75 million.

You’re thinking of the WRONG kind of affordable. It’s not affordable to BUILD, it’s supposed to be affordable to RENT. You know, modern day projects.

Not from Cali but if what I read is correct, the homeless have already taken over Venice Beach.

My girlfriend, who lives there, told me there's an encampment a block away from her apartment. She is afraid to leave at night.

Venice beach beach front is free. Just pitch your tent, throw some garbage around, defecate on the sidewalk to mark your territory and you’re set,

Sad. And yet so damn ironic/funny.

The goal is to reduce every neighborhood to section 8 status. They’re getting there.

There are bad people and there are evil people. We are being assaulted by evil people. If we don’t respond appropriately, we are going to get buried. We haven’t so far.

I used to live in LA and had some friends that lived in that area. Wierd place, a mix of poor young artist types, bums/criminals, rich odd people in the film industry....like Angelica Houston, etc. It sure devolved into what it is now. I lived in a very nice area in he hills above the Valley, but knew to get out years ago. You could actually have a nice day walking around the beach with kids 20 years ago. It was like going to a carnival. I wouldn’t go there if you paid me $$$ now. The Left are cancer.

You should help her move out of that area. It is very unsafe.

I’m sure Howard Roark could build them cheaper but that wouldn’t be sufficient for the developers who grease city hall politicians.

Used to live on Venice Beach in the late 80s and was delighted to see that by 2015 gentrification had largely pushed the crack dealers out of the neighborhood. I guess somebody missed them.

They are doing the same thing in Tampa, FL (Dem city). Building affordable housing multi-story units right in pricey downtown area near tourist spots.
