Homeless and people with low incomes will soon be housed next to the iconic and expensive Venice Beach neighborhood after the Los Angeles City Council approved last week a 136-unit apartment building.

The project, which will be built on city property that is now a parking lot, will cover 2.7 acres and the Venice Dell Community project will cost $75 million.

Not from Cali but if what I read is correct, the homeless have already taken over Venice Beach.

Venice Beach is a weird place. It has a very sketchy feel, most of it, and it is currently (as of May 2021, when I last saw it) overrun with homeless and other, uh, proletarian sorts. Not anywhere one would want to be walking around of an evening.

The “progressives” keep finding more ways to put their political agendas ahead of good governance and common sense.

+$550k per unit to develop is NOT affordable housing. It’s a pay off to a benefactor.

So that’s what, about half a mil of taxpayer money per unit?

CA has an interesting definition of affordable.

Affordable housing hasn’t had anything to do with inexpensive housing for quite a while. Just another racket for people who know the ins and outs of the govt programs, just like wind power, solar, defense, etc. Wait until you see the prices on this “affordable” housing.

$75M for 136 units? That’s just part of a never ending down payment if they are trying to clear the beach.

The origin of white flight was to leave with your family rather than fight physically against the thugs and lowlife types invading your area.

“Northwest Homeowners Association” in Detroit in the 1960s, for example, made sure heroin and cocaine couldn’t be sold to K-12 kids openly and people couldn’t set up a house of prostitution and commit other crimes, but they finally had to give up and move away. Then “Detroit’s disintegrating buildings” pictures became common.

Such as: 22 Detroit Slum Premium High Res Photos - Getty Images —Detroit slum stock photos and images available.

If the Federal Government not FORCES people to integrated criminal and law abiding people (see, not just by race....)
then there will be warfare. Those forced affordable housing plans are going on everywhere. Police will say “lock your doors, don’t leave valuables on a car seat and be aware of your surroundings.” But this time people can’t move to a safe neighborhood. Dems make them ALL unsafe. Goodbye, USA.

“I keep saying build projects in Beverly Hills but nobody listens to me.”

Agreed - but don’t forget Marina Del Rey or Brentwood either. They’re just as deserving.

Beverly Hills is an independent city. L.A. City Council can’t do this to B.H. They can to Venice which is a part of L.A.
