Former high-ranking U.S. Attorney Andrew McCarthy discusses charges against the parents of Ethan Crumbley. McCarthy made these comments yesterday appearing with Neil Cavuto.
Andrew McCarthy — “I really think it’s outrageous, I mean I understand it because people are very hot, emotions are very raw, this was a heinous heinous act.”
“And the state of Michigan has considered a number of times enacting a law, this child access prevention law that many states have adopted which would make criminal what happened here which was the that the parents allowed the child to get access to the weapon. But the state of Michigan has decided not to enact that law.”

“And you can argue that that’s a good thing or a bad thing but the fact is it’s a thing and it’s up to the legislature to make the criminal law so what happened here is they don’t have a law to prosecute what the parents did even though the legislature’s considered it and not enacted it.”
“So at a time when everybody’s hot and emotions are raw, prosecutors are creating a crime on the fly to attach to these parents. And if you think about it, it doesn’t make much more sense to accuse them of complicity in murder, any more than it makes sense to accuse the school officials of murder.”

“I’ve never heard of a case where you see parents get charged under circumstances where there’s no evidence that they had any complicity in a plan or something where you know there was an actual objective to kill people and I’ve seen a lot of cases like this and they’re… you want to wring the necks of the people who are involved in them.”

I’m thinking the same thing, waiting for the agenda to be revealed. It seems all of these city DA’s are intent upon political prosecutions now.
Do you think they’d be charged if they weren’t white ?
Are we going to prosecute the moms and dads of gang members?
Yup.
They are charging them knowing it will fail so they can create a groundswell of support in the legislature to pass laws holding everyone responsible who touched the firearm prior to its use....parents, gun shops, etc.
Not a chance.
Detroit has one of the highest murder rates in America. I've never heard of any of the black parents of the black teenagers who regularly commit murders, ever charged with anything.
I commented on the first announcement of this prosecution that it was a Soviet Show Trial in the making.
I was right.
And just how is that going to work out in the very high teenage murder rate “African American community”?
Look at the January 6th protestors, in jail almost a year for practicing their 1st Amendemnt constitutional right, no bail while they are tortured and brutalized which is completely and utterly ignored and wiped by the Marxist media. But they grant bail to the feral who ran over and killed 6 people in Wisconsin and released him on just $1000 bail before he did it even though he has a long criminal history. The problem is we have Marxists practicing Cuban style justice. These Jan.6th protestors are in jail SOLELY for being tagged as Trump supporters and you can bet these parents will absolutely be treated more harshly if they too are discovered to be Trump supporters.
“ Do you think they’d be charged if they weren’t white ?”
I think their problem was more of being Trump supporters than simply being white.
What about parents making their cars available?
I think I’d go back and ask what all this kid was doing in school for 2019, 2020, and 2021. Kid sounds like an intense (60-plus hour a week) gamer (both parents seem to be working full-time). Kid didn’t just suddenly in a week erupt into ‘killer’.
It’s common for a DA to enhance her career with a popular prosecution. This gal is angling for Gretchen’s job. Her quick charging the parents before the sheriff even knew and press conference stank of politics.
In Michigan a person is guilty of manslaughter if “the defendant caused the death of the victim without justification or lawful excuse.” The prosecution will claim that by giving their kid the gun and ignoring the signs that he was planning to kill someone that they, in effect, caused the death of the students. It’s going to be interesting to see how they make their case.
That's easy: selective enforcement and prosecution.
Are you that naive to believe our justice system is blind?
These parents definitely had some moral culpability in the murders committed by their son. What parent buys a gun for a troubled kid? Yet the Soros prosecutors these days are not troubled by the constraints of existing law and certainly don’t enforce laws they don’t like. However they will find a way to prosecute individuals who violate the politically correct narrative and criminalize political opposition. Beria, Stalin’s bloody secret police chief did the same thing.
The Communists and Nazis routinely rounded up family members and even neighbors.
The prosecution may not have a case, but the parents will be overwhelmed with trying to defend themselves, and end up bankrupt with their reputations ruined. As Mark Steyn says, “the process is the punishment.”
I could see some sort of negligence charge for not securing the gun and possibly having given the kid the gun. That’s about it though.
