Rio de Janeiro on Saturday canceled its New Year’s Eve party due to renewed COVID-19 fears.
Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes announced the decision on social media.
Paes had previously promised the biggest New Year’s Eve party ever, with multiple firework displays and artists performing on a dozen stages across the city.

Now it’s the world acting on its total loss of its mental faculties. Is it too late for them to try to take Christmas from us?
This isn’t ending, nor was it ever intended to end. It was meant to gain momentum and provide an excuse for a total loss of freedom in what was once the “free world.”
Couldn’t happen to a Nicer Progressive city under Progressive Rule. Another reason to flee before higher taxes will inevitably come!
