DC: Pay More for “Ghost Guns”; Get More “Ghost Guns”?

In Washington, the District of Columbia, the murder rate is soaring. The DC leadership has a scapegoat for their political problem – blame guns! Especially blame homemade guns!

They have a political solution: pay people more for snitching on people with guns, especially guns the DC politicians have banned in one way or another.

A significantly increased reward has been offered for anonymous information leading to the confiscation of guns and the arrest of people illegally possessing those guns, for a period of just over a month. The increased reward – of up to $7,500 – was announced on November 22, 2021. From wtop.com:

As homicide rates remain worryingly high in the District — up 12 percent compared to this time last year, according to D.C. police data — the city is raising the monetary incentive to get illegal guns off the street.

While the District offers up to $2,500 for tips that lead to the recovery of illegal guns, the city is partnering with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to raise that reward to $7,500.

(snip)

Contee said that tips that lead to the recovery of any illegal weapons will still receive a partial reward.

The triple-level reward will only last until the end of 2021, or five weeks and three days. The DC police department guidelines do not mention the increased reward yet. Here are the guidelines from the DC Metropolitan Police Department:

$7,500 ? Boys time to get in the ghost gun production business, sell each for $7500! Maybe just go to Home Depot for the lead pipe, 2X4 “shotgun” special! There’s money to be made!

Did you read the article.

The "rewards" are all at the discretion of the police and the "authorities".

If you could be sure to get $7,500 for a "ghost gun", whatever they mean by that, it would spark a real surge.

But no one expects anything but fluff out of this.

DC is corrupt to the core.

DC politicians ... have a political solution: pay people more for snitching on people with guns ...

Interestingly, in DC they're paying people to snitch on BLACK people.

Kind of reminiscent of the fugitive slave laws, and the first and original "Gun" Control laws which were implemented for the unique purpose of disarming freed black slaves only.

Police in many cities buy back programs have been buying the Home Depot Special Shot Gun. It’s worth a try.

If I lived in DC, I would not trust the institutions enough to give it a try.

They have complete discretion to give you anything or not; in addition, they have complete discretion to hunt you down with all the resources at their disposal, if they believe you are gaming the system.

If the persecution of the January 6 defendants has shown us anything, it is that the DC government is completely corrupt.

Congress should withdraw self rule from DC.
