China will not stop at Taiwan, Australia's Foreign Minister Dutton
Australian Financial Review ^ | 11/26/21 | Andrew Tillett

Defence Minister Peter Dutton has warned that all Australian major cities are within range of Chinese missiles and claims the conquest of Taiwan will be the first domino to fall in a campaign by Beijing to dominate the Indo-Pacific region.

In the most aggressive anti-China speech by an Australian minister in decades, Mr Dutton said on Friday the world could not repeat the mistakes of the 1930s when Western powers ignored the rapid militarisation of Japan and Germany.

Too many many on the FR board are incorrect that Australia is weak on the PRC. In fact, along with Japan, Australia is the most vocal country on commenting on what China's threat is to the world. Australia's Foreign Minster Duttonjust gave this speech, which China has condemned, as well as some in the leftist Labor Party in Austraila. However, even in the Labor Party there is a strong faction that is anti-PRC. Many people in the conservative coalition, wish that Dutton was the Prime Minister.

In the past year, Australia has been very crticial of China about Covid origins and the slave labor camps. This is why China has boycotted so many of Australia's goods. Australia was one of the first countries to call for an investigation of China over the Covid, and this infuriated China. Our relations with China are at an all time low since Mao's regime.

Don’t know that FR people think Oz is weak on PRC. I do know that the oz gov is weak on energy and Green BS, right to bear arms, Covid, maybe a few other domestic issues like wildfires. It would be natural for the casual observer to assume they are weak on China as well as everything domestic.
Don’t think they are, myself, for which we can be glad.

We’ve been feeding and petting the snake that is Communist China for nearly 50 years, and now free nations are going to pay a heavy price for it.

The Chinese intend to dominate the region by capturing island and establishing bases all over the place, similar to what the Japanese did in WW II. The range of air power is extended and missiles can extend strike ranges quite a bit further. Once the bases are established and sea lanes threatened the Chinese can either overawe small nations or threaten to strangle them. Australia is a huge empty continent with lots of room for Chinese once the Europeans are controlled. As for the aborigines, expect them to be exterminated - the Chinese have little use for them. After Australia is colonized sufficiently the Chinese can look further afield to establish satrapies that will bend to their will.

We have seen this script before.

Australia has been very critical of China about Covid origins and the slave labor camps.

Yeah, now that you're worried, the camps in Communist China are different than the camps in Australia, and we appreciate the boost Five Eyes gave to Russia, Russia, Russia.

I agree with your assessment.

Once Taiwan falls the rest of the dominoes are likely to topple. That is not because China will actually invade Japan, the Philippines or Australia but because left-wing factions within these countries will force accommodations to China that resemble surrender.

Those of us old enough to remember the literally millions of demonstrators in the streets of Europe, especially in Germany, protesting the installation by Ronald Reagan of missiles to defend Western Europe against the Soviet Union, know that the left in every nation will capitulate to virtually any leftist threat. That is not necessarily true of a threat that they believe is coming from the right but when the left threatens from without, the domestic left will surrender.

China will not need to actually invade and occupy, quislings will do the job nicely for them.

You’re being fed crap about what is going on in Australia. A lot of the crap is quite likely originally coming from China.

Repeating their propaganda is helping their cause.

We *really* could use a strong President right now instead of the empty headed idiot who now occupies the White House. Thanks, leftidiot voters who gave enough room for the Democrats to steal the election. Now we’re facing WWIII. Well done morons.

America WILL have Australia’s back one way or the other. After all, Australia is the ONLY nation who has allied with the US in every war we’ve fought since Australia existed as a nation.

Also, Australia is no push-over.

How exactly will Australia defend itself against China when it is busy fighting its own citizens over Covid?

Seems a bit balsy to me.

Yeah but Australia won’t be colonized. They’re stronger than many seem to understand. Isolated? Maybe. But the Aussies are self-sufficient. Colonized? Not going to happen.

Yeah, but it didn’t work out so well the first time. If you look at a map of the Pacific, you can readily see the first string of islands running north to south outside China’s actual territorial waters. Taiwan is an anchor of that string. But in the north it leads to Japan and in the South it leads to Oz.

China has been open that their near term intention is to establish hegemony over this string of islands and control the waters between it and the mainland.
After that, who knows, but the Chinese are a patient regime. They have bided their time since gaining world trade acceptance, and now would

appear to be the opportunity for which they have been waiting. The US is leaderless and drifting toward the rocks; Oz is preoccupied with idiot domestic squabbles.

There is no credible deterrent to decisive action. That means, no external reason to delay. They have the ball and will call the play that works best for them. The play clock is running.
