Republicans ridiculed President Biden's energy secretary on Wednesday after she admitted she did not know how many barrels of oil were consumed each day in the United States.
'How incompetent is the Biden administration?' asked Ronna McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee.
'Biden’s energy secretary doesn’t even have a rough idea of how many barrels of oil the U.S. uses in a day.'
A day earlier Jennifer Granholm appeared in the White House briefing room to trumpet the administration's moves to release 50 million barrels of oil from the nation's strategic reserve as it sought to ease crippling gas prices.
But Biden's energy secretary was stumped by a simple question.
CBS News reporter Ed O’Keefe asked: 'I’m curious if you know, how many barrels of oil does the US consume per day?”
Granholm replied: 'I don’t have that number in front of me. Sorry.'

Not surprising. The majority of Xiden’s picks would fail the most basic of questions on subjects in which they are supposed to be experts. They weren’t picked for that expertise in the first place.

Someone should ask her what her plan is to recycle all those empty barrels. 18 million a day adds up.
She probably thinks each person uses a barrel of oil, so by her logic, releasing 50 million barrels is the same as giving 50 million dollars as a stimulus payment to the public. Therefore problem solved...
So the amount that Xiden is releasing is less than 3 days of US consumption.
1/42nd of a barrel is in a gallon of crude oil. Problem with that statement is that there are no containers of crude oil that are 42 gallons in the industy. The 42 US-gallon oil barrel is only a unit of measure, and is no longer a physical container used to transport crude oil— ie. a unit of measure for oil pipelines and oil tankers.
When the market talks about “barrels of oil” it is this unit of measure.
So Granholm has no clue that it is 18.2 Million barrels (ie 42 gallon “barrels” a day)— and the 50 million barrels removed from US Strategic Reserve is 2.78 days of US oil consumption— and will make ZERO impact on gasoline end user prices. 42 x 50 million= 2 Billion 100 Million gallons of crude—2.78 days.
The idiocy of moving the US Strategic reserve and give/sell it to India and China is mind numbing. No effect on US prices what.so.evah.

It’s not just the ignorance that’s maddening, it’s her extreme arrogance that she doesn’t even NEED to learn the job after being there almost a year.
A college kid who showed up for an internship there would know that fact on Day 1.
It’s really quite stunning that there won’t even be the slightest chance she could lose her job over this. If it happened under Trump, the media would STILL be talking about it.
Strange how she believes releasing oil from the strategic reserve domestically will affect oil prices, but domestic oil production cannot and only OPEC can control oil prices in that case.
And our strategic reserve is not there to bring prices down - it is there to make sure that there is actually gas in the pump in the case of an extreme supply disruption.
This is messed up all around.
