CEO says FedEx can meet holiday demand 'assuming that we can get the employees'

The CEO of FedEx said on Sunday the transport company will be able to meet holiday demand “assuming that we can get the employees,” as a number of industries continue to grapple with decreased workforces because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Asked by host Margaret Brennan on CBS’s “Face the Nation” if Christmas presents will arrive on time this holiday season, FedEx CEO Fred Smith said “I think we’re ready for this,” as long as he has enough workers.

He said FedEx and other companies have seen a shortage in workers in part because of the highly infectious delta variant, and to a degree because of COVID-19 stimulus funds that supported businesses and workers amid the pandemic.

Pressed on how he will hold his employees to the mandate, Smith said FedEx will “try any and everything,” pointing to incentives, encouragement “or what have you.”

but you will comply.............

FedEx has really gone down hill in quality of service.

Just had them deliver laminate underlayment roll on Saturday. They threw the $200 unwrapped roll in my driveway by my trash cans far from my front porch and entry door. Luckily I found it before the rain destroyed it.

The previous two packages they delivered were seeds. Both the packages were smashed.

40-90k applications a day. Wow.
He said that a lot of the hourly workers don't want the vax.
Fred smith is ex-military, anti union, and runs the company very military like. I worked for them for about 14 years in several areas (on the express side). They expect 100%. But the pay and benefits are really good. No doubt he's between a rock and a hard place with this vax. He's going to lose a lot of employees.

Good luck getting seasonal part time workers to get the “mandatory vaxx”.

The “experts” will never see it coming....

My FedEx driver said he’s working 7 days a week and he’s happy. In case you’re wondering, he’s black and a very sweet man. Always smiling and chatting and he’s been delivering my Chewy orders for about 2 years.

Fred Smith is still CEO? I worked for them back in the 80s. I guess he’ll die in that position (he’s almost 80 years old).

I applied for a seasonal job with UPS. So far they’ve said nothing about a vaccination requirement or even a drug screen.

While both Express and Ground are FedEx, they truly are like 2 different companies. FedEx express has FedEx employed drivers, sorters, etc.

FedEx Ground drivers are contractors. They paid and bought their route, so to speak. They are just different. I always worked express. Ground probably wasn’t even an idea when I started. Plz call and let them know what he did. Ground doesn’t have the work ethic that express has.
