Saving the Rainforests Will Not Stop Global Warming: Here's Why

Saving the rainforests will not stop global warming -- and here’s why

Apparently, at COP26, world leaders agreed a deal to end deforestation of rainforests, ostensibly to stop global warming.

This deal relies on implicit arguments that are nonsensical. What’s happening to the rainforests is a classic example of how the official narrative ignores logic and reality.

But it's far from clear that the deal currently being touted at COP26 is actually a good thing at all, either for the countries involved or the planet's ecosystem, still less as a way of stopping global warming. If it works the same way as other 'climate change' 'green' initiatives then all that will happen is that big corporations will receive massive government subsidies and/or lucrative contracts to stop what they are currently doing (cutting down rain-forests for logging and then planting palm-oil trees and and/or soy-beans) and instead do something else equally damaging but even more profitable.

An existing example of a ‘green’ initiative that fails to be ‘green’ is the industry currently cutting down entire forests in North America to produce raw wood-chips which are then transported across vast distances to burn in electricity-generating plants.

The deforestation of the world's remaining large-scale forested areas (mostly in under-developed poor countries with few exploitable natural resources) is a big issue for conservationists. And they are right to be concerned. The rainforests are an under-researched reservoir of biological diversity.

So any international agreement to protect rainforests has got to be worthwhile -- but only if the net effect is beneficial.

Again, people being short-sighted. How about a plan to remove existing nuclear waste from fission reactors by recycling that waste as fuel for small thorium reactors? Clean power, nuclear waste clean-up, a two-fer.

Thorium reactors are under appreciated as a solution for so many problems, with an unfair stigma because it is “nuclear”.

Whereas I agree that saving the rainforests may not have any effect on global temperature (as there are many other factors other than CO2 defining climate), there is no question that saving the rainforests will keep CO2 levels lower than they would be without them. In fact, the effect would be much more significant than the contribution of cars and trucks across the globe.

Grassland produces 3-1/2 times the Oxygen of forests.

I'm writing a book: "My Cow Farts and The grass Turns Green."

It's a small cycle all by itself.

CO2 has nothing to do with temperature. But if it did, the oceans are really the lungs of the Earth. Plankton.

Thorium reactors won’t work until they can solve the Protactinium 233 removal problem.
It needs to be removed from the fuel before it starts to decay and begins to produce U232 and eventually high gamma daughter products.
Eventually it would create a reactor deadly to work on.

the rainforest will recapture all the land if left alone, but people in poor countries still have to live, or do the greenies just want to off everyone but themselves
