Only a few a dozen NYPD members were placed on unpaid leave Monday after refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine — but thousands of unvaccinated employees remain on the job with pending exemption requests, the city’s top cop said. Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said 34 cops and 40 civilian members of the force — which account for fewer than .15 percent of NYPD employees — did not comply with Mayor Bill de Blasio’s mandate requiring most city workers to get their first jab by Monday.

Cool. So you can use the exemptions to pick and choose who you want to get rid of and who you want to keep, bypassing all those employment laws you’ve created.
One of those guys is vaccinated. Look for the thin blue necktie.
34, so far, but it remains to be seen how many of these "thousands" will quit if their exemptions are turned down. I'll bet the authorities are examining the situation to decide whether they can weather the storm. It's political, folks!
The pandemic has taken a devastating toll on police departments across the country. COVID-19 is now killing more law enforcement officers than any other threat they face in the line of duty — 716 officers have died since March 2020, according to the Fraternal Order of Police. (10.06.2021)
Few will quit, most will get vaccinated.
The numbers are cooked—they probably died “with” Covid, not “of” Covid.
We had a relative who hard a horrible heart condition for months before dying, and “officially” he was listed as a Covid death because he tested positive.
I trust these stats as far as I can throw them.
These officers can easily get jobs in other jurisdictions.
In addition, there are probably many other officers who skipped the entire process and just quietly bailed—either retirement or taking another job.
That is what ticks a lot of us off. No due process, checks and balances. Just dictates from the governors and president.
But this is what tyrants do.
The guy with the orange complexion and bad combover giving a thumbs up.
Yet another mistake the fascists are committing.
I assume anybody with seniority isn’t going to walk away from a very lucrative pension.
Most will accept communism.
Sad that so many people are just falling in line.

They are not going to leave a 15 year + job to move to another jurisdiction and lose seniority. They don’t really want to be on bar duty at 3 AM at their age.
They stopped saying defund the police but accomplished the same goal by firing the unvaxxed.

Then they’re cowards.
My response to my HR department over their demand for proof I’ve had the death shot was, “Not today, not tomorrow, not ever.”
The deadline for me to get the shot was September 30th. They haven’t fined me yet but I suppose they might.
I agree that some cops are in that situation—but they run the full range from newbies just out of training all the way to eligible for retirement.
