Tom Hanks awkwardly put his foot in his mouth as he questioned 'where's the groom?' while crashing a same-sex wedding on Santa Monica beach over the weekend - before quickly realising his error.
The guests burst into laughter as the Oscar winner, 65, asked to take a picture with the bride and groom after accidentally walking into their ceremony, only to realise it was a same-sex union.
After realising his mistake, Tom shouted 'Oh get out, my stock just exploded!', before putting his arms around the two brides, Diciembre and Tashia Farries, to pose for a photograph.
The newlyweds later praised Tom for 'not batting an eyelid' over their marriage, as they admitted they still face some homophobic prejudice 'even in 2021'.
The lovebirds had assembled their wedding on the beach with friends and family in attendance, but as the ceremony was wrapping up, Tom decided to approach the couple.
'Everyone is saying, 'There's Tom Hanks!'' Tashia recounted in an interview, adding that she and Diciembre were shocked to see the actor.
In video shot on the beach, he seemed particularly tickled to learn that it was a same-sex wedding, after first asking guests where the groom was.
Members of the couple's friends and family could be heard explaining to younger guests who Tom was, with one women telling her son he was 'Woody from Toy Story', while another referenced Castaway.
According to Tashia, Tom had been watching the ceremony from afar and was so moved by it that he decided to approach the couple afterward.
'He said, 'I saw the ceremony from back there and it had to be one of the most beautiful ceremonies that I've ever seen,'' she recounted.

Yep I wonder that too. How could he have observed this allegedly beautiful ceremony and not notice it was a same sex wedding? We have a disconnect here with him then saying where is the groom.
Funny I never get a good response when I crash a wedding.
When the wife and I got married we both agreed from the get go that we would not be married in any country club or hotel ballroom. It was a decent size but we found a wonderful historic building and rented it out fairly cheap. That gave us enough cash to have an open bar and hors d’oeuvres served before the ceremony. Because another thing we both agreed on, it’s rude to invite guests only to have them linger around for an hour or more without serving them food and drinks. Because these things never start on time.
But I digress.
Where’s the groom? why, on the right, obviously.
Will the media pick up on the racial angle? White savior Hanks assuming he'll be welcome at a wedding of non-White people he doesn't know?
