WASHINGTON—The Biden administration is in talks to offer immigrant families that were separated during the Trump administration around $450,000 a person in compensation, according to people familiar with the matter, as several agencies work to resolve lawsuits filed on behalf of parents and children who say the government subjected them to lasting psychological trauma.
The U.S. Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are considering payments that could amount to close to a million per family, though the final numbers could shift

Dan Crenshaw slammed President Biden Thursday over a Wall Street Journal report that Biden is considering paying $450,000 to migrant families that were separated on the southern border during former President Trump’s administration, alluding that military families get worse government benefits than that.

Crenshaw, R-Texas, a Navy SEAL veteran, tweeted. “For perspective, if a service member is killed in action, their next of kin gets an insurance payment of $400,000. Let that sink in.”

I’m a bit slow, and I haven’t been keeping up with the times. So will somebody please explain this to me. How can Biden legally give away all that money? I thought only Congress had the power to appropriate funds.
